Newhaven to Brighton Coastal Walk

A most wonderful 10 mile coastal walk firstly along the cliff tops affording great views of the sea then a delightful undercliff walk for the last third until fashionable Brighton. Please arrive by 9.45am to buy group train tickets for the 10.24am train that arrives at Newhaven Town at 11.39am after changing at Lewes. Meetup fee : £5 payable in cash or in advance by bank transfer. Train ticket : return to Newhaven Town Please bring packed lunch and bring water, snacks etc plus waterproof jacket and walking shoes/boots/trainers. Also sunhat, suncream and sunglasses. We shall have an ice cream along the way and then arrive in Brighton at around 5pm, then perhaps a drink in the Lanes before taking the train back at around 6pm. Newhaven to Brighton a stunning coastal hike

Many have asked why I never organised a hike around Brighton and I never really knew so here we go! We are hiking in Brighton! After the success of this hike in the summer last year, I have decided to do it again for those who have not been able to. Although most people go for the Seven Sisters or or the white cliffs of Dover, they don't always think about other places with stunning cliff walks and what a mistake! This place is stunning and you will enjoy it without the large crowds of the more popular places. We will walk the cliff top and at the bottom of it, probably stalked by a few seals. The first time I took hikers there, they weren't expecting such beauty. This is a hike I highly recommend for old and new Jonions so come and join me on this adventure. We will start at Newhaven and walk along the Coast all the way to Southern Britain's most popular beach town, good old Brighton. Yaaaaayyyyy This trip will be simply and plainly a day by the sea for us to enjoy the fresh air and have a nice time with some of the world's most awesome people, my Jonions! Let's hike before we head for food, and drinks, for those who wish and a walk around Brighton if you fancy. This hike is great for beginners or crazy hikers alike, it won't exhaust you too much but there are a few hills. We then get back on the bus, back to the station and head for Brighton, which is one of the most popular seaside towns in England. It has one landmark that stands out in the city and that is the Royal Pavilion, the royal palace built for King George IV when he was Prince of Wales. Enjoy the beach with all the usual attractions of a seaside town or go shopping in the Lanes. London Bridge to Bermondsey: The Inaugural Walk

Welcome to our first walk! Here is the approximate plan: **18:30** Gather at the meeting point and do short introductions. **18:35** Randomly split up in pairs to work on the first ice-breaking challenge. **18:40** Start walking along the proposed route while working on the challenge: think of a recent problem or incident you had to handle and describe it to your partner. Let the partner come up with a solution and compare it with how you solved the problem. Then switch sides. **19:10** Short break at Courage Yard, near the fountain, to buy water, take photos and visit the nearby pub for quick refreshments. **19:25** Continue walking while working on the second challenge: Imagine you have been appointed the CTO of a tech startup. What would you do in your first week in office? **19:50** End our walk at the Bermondsey Hidden Beach, a 5-minute distance from the Bermondsey tube station. Before we part, we each contribute to a *Think On Your Feet Manifesto* of the day: **First Thing a Good Software Engineer Does In The Morning**. I will write down everyone's statements and publish the manifesto on the meetup page the next day. Optionally, we can sit down at *The Old Justice* at the end of our root to have a drink and wind up our walk. As we walk, we will be passing some landmarks and buildings with interesting historical or industrial background. Both challenges are completely optional: you are welcome to just enjoy the walk in good company, but we believe you will get more value out of this meetup if you engage with the group.
