Bei einem gemütlichen Barabend in der Rooftop-Bar des Amano-Hotels in der Auguststraße besprechen wir bei leckeren Drinks und kleinen Snacks, welche Ziele wir im Sommer ansteuern wollen und wie lange und abwechslungsreich unsere Wanderungen sein sollen. Wine Hike: Saale-Unstrut

Visit one of Germany's best wine regions, and hike along the Saale river, visiting local wineries. *A day-trip from Berlin to one of Germany's best wine regions, Saale-Unstrut, in Saxon-Anhalt. Hike along the river to the historic town of Saale-Unstrut, visiting several wineries along the way.* Hike Distance: 15km Difficulty: Intermediate WHY GO? Walk along the Saale river, passing through the villages, vineyards, traditional stone wine huts, and numerous Straußwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns) where you can stop for a glass of Müller-Thurgau or Silvaner. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you'll find an atmosphere here that is rarely seen these days. The landscape along the Saale River is characterized by vineyards with steep terraces, centuries-old dry stone walls, and romantic vineyard cottages. A unique Mediterranean flora and fauna offer many surprises. The hike also includes the medieval German town of Naumberg - Friedrich Nietzsche - and its UNESCO Heritage Cathedral, the Blütengrund, where the Saale and Unstrut rivers meet, and the serene, salt-aired spa town Bad Kösen. **Tour Guide** The tour will be led by travel author and guide Dan Cole, authoer of the leading hiking guide Weinwandern Deutschland. After-work bike ride: Südkreuz → Griebnitzsee (~25 km, one way)

After-work bike ride from Südkreuz to Griebnitzsee - one way, S-Bahn back. Shake off the workday with a relaxed evening ride out of the city. We'll follow the Teltowkanal southwest, ride through the quiet paths of Düppeler Forest, and arrive at Griebnitzsee - a beautiful lake on the Berlin-Potsdam border with a historic lakeside promenade lined with old villas. Depending on timing we'll stop for a drink at the lake before catching the S-Bahn back together. The train ride back is a good chance to chat and wind down. Any bike type works. No special experience needed - just show up and enjoy the ride. • Start: S-Bahn Südkreuz • End: Griebnitzsee S-Bahn station (S7 back to Berlin) • Distance: \~25 km (one way) • Terrain: Flat to gently rolling, canal paths and forest tracks • Pace: The one you're comfortable with - we're here to relax after work, not to race • Recommended to bring: water, lights, S-Bahn ticket or BVG app for the return • Equipment: Up to you but you're responsible for your own safety. The Eifel region was settled by Celts, Romans and Franconians amd the the products of their cultures are still there to be admired: romantic towns such as **Monschau also know as the "Pearl of the Eifel"**, with half-timbered houses dating from the Middle Ages, the fascinating remains of Roman structures and imposing castles such as “Burg Eltz”. The town is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and is a great base for hiking and outdoor activities. **WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS?** * **Exploring Monschau "Pearl of the Eifel":** Charming and picturesque village with preserved half-timber houses in the Eifel mountains on the Rur River Valley. Monschau exudes with history, architecture & romance. * **Hiking in the Eifel Region:** This region was shaped by volcanic activity and although the last volcano erupted about 10,000 years ago, evidence of the Eifel’s turbulent past can be seen in the crater lakes, called maars, that pepper the Vulkaneifel landscape. The region also boasts some of the loveliest fairy tale towns and medieval castles in the country. * **Short Guided tour of Aachen:** Aachen is known for its history and culture, as well as its thermal springs and spa. The city was the preferred residence of Charlemagne, and was the place where **31 Holy Roman Emperors** were crowned Kings of the Germans. It's also famous for **Aachen Cathedral**, a **UNESCO World Heritage Site**, which was built in the 8th century and is considered one of the most important examples of Carolingian architecture. * **Aachen Cathedral:** Aachen Cathedral was the very first site to be granted **UNESCO World Heritage** status in Germany, and with good reason: built in around 790 to 800, the cathedral is of world importance in terms of the history of art and architecture, and is one of the great examples of church architecture. The final resting place of Charlemagne, it was also where German emperors were crowned for 600 years. * **Aachen Thermal Baths (Optional):** In Aachen, water and wellness have a long tradition. While in former times, the Romans relaxed in the therapeutic waters of the Aachen mineral springs, today, the Carolus Thermen thermal pools offer the perfect escape from everyday life. WHATSAPP LINK BELOW 📳​ We take the HBX train that departs from Berlin Gesundbrunnen at 07,02 AM and arrives to Ilsenburg at 10,29 🚉😀 The train is available also in Lichtenberg, Wannsee and Potsdam. I attach the screenshot with all the stations. The train is Deutschland Ticket valid. Once in Ilsenburg station, we take a local bus to save a bit of walking (since the actual Hike will be already very long 😆💯). A direct train to come back from Ilsenburg to Berlin is available at 17,31 (HBX), but maybe (or even probably) it will be too early for us. Hike from Lübben (Spreewald) to Schlepzig

Join us for our second hike of the summer! We will start by meeting at (or at least boarding) the **10.40 RE2 (3112)** at **Ostkreuz** station, **Platform 1**. We will arrive at Lübben (Spreewald) at 11.25. *Note that if you miss this train, then the next one does not arrive until 11.56, so you will certainly miss us and won't be able to catch up!* The hike will go from Lübben to Schlepzig, along the canals and lakes of the beautiful Spreewald region. *(See photos for a rough route -- this is not necessarily accurate!)* The walk will be about 15 km and take about 4-5 hours. Bring lunch, snacks & water, comfortable walking shoes, and maybe even some sunglasses. We will stop a couple of places along the way, but will not stop long enough to order food, so bring your lunch! At the end of the walk, in Schlepzig, there is a Whisky brewery and a Biergarten. We will visit one or both. You can also get food at both. Then, we will take the 18:57 bus back to the starting point of Lübben Bahnhof. From there, we will catch the 19.34 RE2 (3129) back to Ostkreuz, arriving at 20.23. *(If you really want to, and if we get to Schlepzig in time, then you can also take the 16.52 bus to Lübben, then the 17.34 RE2 back to Berlin.)* **Note: We will reschedule this if the weather is too rainy.
