Staten Island Greenbelt Hike
Sun, Sep 20, 1:45 PMJoin us for a hike through the heart of Staten Island in the 2,800-acre park system known as the Greenbelt. The Greenbelt features over 35-miles of trails. Our hike will cover 9-miles of the Greenbelt and a 4-mile walk back to the ferry for a total of 13-miles. The trails on the Greenbelt are rugged with areas of steep inclines and declines. Surfaces are rocky with lots of tree roots. Hiking boots and previous hiking experience are required. Trekking poles are highly recommended. Ticks are a concern on the trail so long pants and bug spray are also recommended. There are very limited drop out opportunities and bathroom breaks on this hike. We will meet on the second floor of the Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal by the restrooms. Once we arrive in Staten Island, we will take a bus to the trailhead. Please bring your OMNY card or another form of payment in order to board the bus. After the hike, we will walk back to the St George Ferry Terminal. Before returning, some of us will have dinner at Lakruwana, a Sri Lankan restaurant with an all you can eat buffet on weekends. Dinner here will cost approximately $30 per person including tax and tip. This is completely optional. You can skip dinner and continue walking to the ferry or you can take the bus back. Bring enough water, snacks/lunch, bug spray, and sun protection. Contact Hike Leader Jessica with any questions 347-603-8447 Co-hosts: Iris and Fernando
