Democracy Road Show–First Steps

Get paid to get active! Democracy depends on people who are willing to participate. In this interactive three-hour workshop on Saturday, July 25, from 10 am to 1 pm, young adults will learn the practical skills from experienced democracy advocates on how to plan and host community events that strengthen civic engagement and democratic participation. **No experience necessary:** Participants will explore how to identify goals, build partnerships, recruit volunteers, engage diverse audiences, coordinate logistics, and create meaningful public conversations around issues that matter to their communities. No experience needed! **Turn ideas into action:** Whether you’re interested in organizing a public forum, community dialogue, educational event, voter engagement initiative, or civic action project, this workshop will provide hands-on tools and real-world strategies to help turn ideas into action. Participants will leave with a framework for developing their own events and a deeper understanding of how local leadership and community participation help sustain a healthy democracy. **Ages 15 to 25:** This workshop is open to any young person 15-25 years of age. **Location:** Greg Olsen Student Union Building, first-floor multipurpose room, Fairleigh Dickinson University, 860 Sub Lane, Teaneck, NJ. Hang out in the park on a Monday night and listen to the Bloomfield Civic Band perform selections from a variety of movies! **note** there is an alternate indoor location in case of rain Location: Bloomfield Green across the street from the Bloomfield Public Library and Civic Center https://maps.app.goo.gl/oViNoFfRaCALRuKk8 What to bring: a chair or blanket to sit on After the concert we can walk across the street to BGR for food or a milkshake. Parking: street parking all around the park, or behind the library, most meters are free after 6pm -The event begins at 7pm rain or shine (with different locations) Christina,(aka Rina on Meetup - she's one of the hosts) be there earlier than 6:50. -Rain location is across the street from the park at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church - 76 Broad St, Bloomfield (same parking directions) -We'll still socialize after the concert at BGR (food/milkshakes) regardless of the weather - the concert should end around 8:30

Youth Democracy Summit

Our Youth Democracy Summit is designed to help empower participants to protect democratic institutions. This summit, organized by Leader Curt Collier, is a collaboration with several partners, including [Democracy in Action,](https://us.list-manage.com/pAYgnDb4jOk?e=2920046f94&c2id=05617f79f772e23eb80946a67f3db216)[Groundwork Elizabeth](https://us.list-manage.com/ICemmoVBiti?e=2920046f94&c2id=05617f79f772e23eb80946a67f3db216), the [New York Society for Ethical Culture](https://us.list-manage.com/At_gPMbJQ1s?e=2920046f94&c2id=05617f79f772e23eb80946a67f3db216), and [Global Exchange](https://us.list-manage.com/BHtcMCPhRPe?e=2920046f94&c2id=05617f79f772e23eb80946a67f3db216), which is providing a $15,000 grant for expenses. Participants in our [Summer Youth Employment Program](https://us.list-manage.com/fTwtZ01Gfpd?e=2920046f94&c2id=05617f79f772e23eb80946a67f3db216) will help plan and run the summit, which will feature guest speakers from Latin America and the Caribbean who are actively involved in democracy and human rights initiatives. They will share firsthand stories of leadership, civic engagement, and social change. This event, "Guardians of Democracy Youth Summit: International Perspectives For Empowering Youth," is at the Kean University STEM Building, 6th floor, 1075 Morris Ave., Union, NJ.
