Day out in Weald of Kent. The Spa Valley steam railway passes through the unspoilt beauty of the Kentish Weald ( Oast houses and orchards) with stops at historic villages, Jacobean palaces and Georgian resorts. We take the Southern service to Eridge to connect with the Spa valley steam railway which shares Eridge mainline station. Joining the Spa Valley railway we alight at High Rocks halt. We can explore the acres of breathtaking sandstone rocks, reached via 11 rope bridges. We plan to picnic in the gardens of the Victorian era hotel. At Tunbridge we can take the reinvigorating Chalybeate waters whilst exploring the Georgian splendour of the Spa resort. We will have late afternoon teas on the collonnaded Pantiles. From Tunbridge we travel back by steam train back to Eridge for trains back to London. Walk is easy route via good paths. Approximately 3 miles in total. Option to do another walk from Groombridge Halt around Groombridge Place (Jacobean Stately home) and walk across High Weald with great views over valley.
