Sun, Sep 20, 5:00 PM
From Ohio Fight club
4.9

Join us for a **Martial Arts & Self Defense** workshop hosted by **Darin Waugh**, an original member of the school and author of multiple martial arts books, including one of our history: [The History & Practice of Do–Jung–Ishu: "The Art of Fighting"](https://www.lulu.com/shop/darin-waugh/the-history-practice-of-do-jung-ishu-the-art-of-fighting/ebook/product-1epnn759.html?page=1&pageSize=4). It will be held at **Tuttle Park (240 W Oakland Ave., Columbus, OH 43201)** on **September 20th @1pm.** Ages 18+. At Darin's workshop, you can expect a casual vibe and **hands-on education** of **efficient** and **effective** concepts and techniques from Do–Jung–Ishu's take on **Jeet Kune Do**, Bruce Lee's legacy. **Sticky Hands** **(Chi Sao)**, a method of controlling your opponent while still maintaining offensive pressure in the clench, is one such concept, and Darin Waugh is one of the best in the world to do it. What you are introduced to in this workshop can be taken with you and grown in future classes with us or wherever you prefer to train. The workshop will last as long as Darin stays to teach, and however long attendees decide to stick around and practice. The fee is **$10/attendee,** and **all proceeds go towards maintaining the club and for Darin's time.** Our shirts may be purchased at the event for $25, and they function as a **%50 discount** when worn to classes. Payments may be made by the following: * Cashapp: $uperman90 * Venmo: @james-cole-213 * In-person Cash Directions to the event spot: From High street, turn west onto Oakland Ave. and go straight until you reach the Tuttle Park parking lot. Once parked, continue west down the sidewalk. We will be at the shaded area by the bench, trashcan, and field hockey arena. If class size gets too big, we may have to move to the southern treeline of the park. Look for the **Black and Red Yin-Yang shirts!**

Speak Easy (Storytelling)

Speak Easy (Storytelling)

Thu, Sep 17, 11:00 PM
From Columbus Speak Easy Storytelling Meetup Group
4.7

The topic for September is "Pets." Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
