It's now possible to select IVF embryos based on genetic predictions for diseases and other traits, and the same gene-editing technology that treats patients with conditions like sickle cell disease could one day change the genes of future children and generations. In an age where we can piece together the "best" combinations of DNA and choose which embryos to birth, the question is no longer what we can do, but what we should do â and what that means for communities who don't fit that standard. Join our stellar panel of bio-ethicists and researchers for a dynamic discussion on where to draw that line. We'll explore the difference between somatic editing (treating a living patient, with no changes passed to future generations) and germline editing (altering an embryo, with changes passed on to all future generations) â and the layers of ethical complexity within each. Together we'll dig into what diseases should be treated in living patients, the long-term impacts on global health, how we should decide what to select against or edit out at the embryo stage, and how these choices could affect the diversity of communities, including people with disabilities and the LGBTQ community. This technology is already here â come learn about its potential and help figure out where the boundaries should be. â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘ **SPEAKERS** **Alta Charo** (BA biology Harvard 1979, JD law Columbia 1982) is the Warren P Knowles Professor Emerita of law and bioethics at the University of Wisconsin law and medical schools, and now works as a consultant on biotechnology regulatory policy and ethics for government, industry, and advocacy groups. During her career, she also worked as a policy analyst for Congress, USAID, and the FDA. Charo co-chaired the National Academy of Sciencesâ seminal 2017 report on human genome editing, and subsequently helped organize two international summits and served on the WHO expert panel on the same subject. **Henry T. (Hank) Greely** (AB Stanford 1974, JD Yale 1977) is the Deane F. and Kate Edelman Johnson Professor of Law; Professor, by courtesy, of Genetics; and Director of the Center for Law and the Biosciences at Stanford University. He clerked for Judge John Minor Wisdom and Justice Potter Stewart, then served in the Departments of Defense and Energy in the Carter Administration before becoming a litigator at a Los Angeles law firm. He joined the Stanford Law School faculty in 1985, writing since 1992 on ethical, legal, and social issues in the biosciences, including his 2021 book, *CRISPR People: The Science and Ethics of Editing Humans*.

We supply easels, and drawing boards and horses - bring your own supplies. No solvents please. This group has been going strong since 1977 and just recently lost their home and have relocated with us. **PARKING:** Easy on Friday nights. **PLEASE SHOW UP BEFORE 6PM**: A person is posted at the entrance from 5:30 - 6PM. They go draw at 6PM and after that and door is locked with a phone number sign to call for entry. **OTHER:** There's always coffee and sweets! And great music.
