**Escape from the blistering heat this Labor Day Weekend while disperse camping in Holcomb Valley, just a few miles north of Big Bear Lake. We’ll spend the entire weekend at about 8,000’ elevation, under relatively cool, pleasant conditions.** **Thank you, Kamil and Erika, for organizing this trip!!** **Once you set up camp you’re free to just chillax, go on a hike, or go search for gold, if your soul desires.** **We have room for just a few more vehicles that can join us.** **By signing up you represent one vehicle, the number of occupants in each vehicle doesn’t matter. Griffith Park Hike – Leisure Pace

This hike will be approximately 2 hours and about 4 miles, with approximately 1,200 feet of elevation gain. This is a LEISURE-PACED HIKE. We will take our time, enjoy the scenery, and allow hikers to maintain a comfortable and sustainable pace. There will be opportunities to take short breaks as needed, especially on the steeper sections. The route will consist mostly of fire roads with some single-track/single-file trails. There will be some steep sections, but there is no expectation to power through them at maximum speed. The goal is to keep the group together and enjoy a good workout without making the hike a race. What to Expect * Distance: Approximately 4 miles * Duration: Approximately 2 hours * Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,200 feet * Pace: Leisure / conversational pace * Terrain: Mostly fire roads with some single-track trails * Difficulty: Moderate, with several uphill sections Although this is a leisure-paced hike, 1,200 feet of elevation gain over 4 miles will still provide a good workout. Be prepared for some steep uphill sections and uneven terrain. What to Bring * Plenty of WATER * Comfortable hiking shoes * Hiking poles if you use them * A long-sleeve shirt if you tend to get chilly * A flashlight if needed — please use red or green light rather than white light, as white light can diminish night vision. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early. We will leave exactly on time, so please plan accordingly. If you cannot make it, please update your RSVP. How to Get There Take the Los Feliz/Crystal Springs entrance to Griffith Park just off the I-5 freeway. Go north on Crystal Springs into the park. At the second stop sign, you’ll come to a four-way intersection. The ranger station should be on your right. Make a left at that intersection and go up the road a little ways. You’ll be forced to turn right into Merry-Go-Round Lot #1. Drive through Lot #1 and continue down the road a little ways until you reach Lot #2. We meet in the middle of Parking Lot #2. FRIDAY--Easy Night walk around Silverlake

Silverlake can be quite beautiful at night. Walk is mostly easy 2.2 miles RT around the lake. Walk is approx. 1 hour. There is short uphill on this walk--approx. 10 minutes Some members go to the local Oyster bar afterwards. **Rain will cancel walk. Dogs ok as long as on leash.** Parking: Street parking. Westridge-Canyonback Loop hike Westridge-Canyonback Loop hike. 5 miles, 1100 feet elevation, 2.5 hours. Meet at Upper Canyonback Trailhead at 8:00 AM near the eastern firegate. Join us for a moderately paced hike in LA’s “Big Wild.” We’ll head down Upper Canyonback trail, which features sweeping canyon views to the west and downtown LA to east, until we reach Mandeville Canyon. We’ll turn and come back up by way of Westridge Trail, passing by the old Nike missile tower and its panoramic views. Bring 2 liters water, snacks, sunblock, sturdy footwear, hat. No dogs. Heat Advisories, Watches and Warnings and Rain cancel the hike. At the trailhead, participants will need to sign a participation waiver, which can be reviewed ahead of time.
