Week Day HIKE:Stunning seaside of Chichester Harbour- and a SWIM

Beach, beach, let,s go to the beach! A gorgeous sandy beach in a gorgeous area of natural outstanding beauty and one of my hikers favourites! It is Wednesday, a weekday meaning that the area and most importantely, the beach will almost be just for us! We will start the hike along the canal until we reach the marina, then along the stunning estuary which could look like paradise until we reach one of Britain's most beautiful sandy beach! West Wittering... Join me on this beautiful hike and visit both Chichester Harbour and town, a traditional English seaside town with sandy beaches, dunes and one of the most stunning nature reserves. We will visit the old town and cathedral and hike the seaside and nature reserve South of this historical place. CHICHESTER HARBOUR is a large natural harbour to the south west of the city of Chichester on the Solent. Talking about sunset, you cannot imagine the beauty of this red sky over West Wittering Sandy beach and the Solent, just mind blowing. If you have to choose a hike this year, this is the one, it has become a favourite for my hikers and is pretty flat, although quite long. It is one of four natural harbours in that area of the coastline, the others being Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour and Pagham Harbour The massive stretch of tidal flats and saltings are of outstanding ecological significance. Very large populations of wildfowl and waders use the mudflats feeding on the rich plant life and the huge populations of intertidal invertebrates. More than 7,500 Brent geese overwinter on the intertidal mud-land and adjacent farmland and around 55,000 birds reside in or visit the Harbour throughout the year. Really, those landscapes are quite unique, you will be surrounded by water and birds and the sunset is exceptional. CHICHESTER, a cathedral town in West Sussex,it is the only city in West Sussex and its county town. It was a Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement and a major market town from those times through Norman and medieval times to the present day. It is the seat of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester, with a 12th-century cathedral. New forest in Purple flowers hike: Brockenhurst to the coast, a horses paradise

Join me for a stunning trip to one of England's eldest forest, the famous NEW FOREST national park... yes I know, it is contradictory, how can an old forest be new you would ask? Well, it is very simple, when William the Conqueror created England, well, invaded this little island of ours, he was a bit of a Queen and liked to pick some places for his own pleasure and this is when he picked the area in 1079AD, one of the most impressive woodlands on this little island and he named it 'Nova Foresta', as his private hunting ground. The name has stayed for now almost 1000 years. While initially intended for the king's exclusive use, with strict laws and penalties for those who violated them, the forest has evolved over time, becoming a national park and a place where commoners' rights were gradually restored. for many years, venison were only hunted by King and friends, the area was filled with deer and wild animals of all sorts and is still, to this day a heaven for red, roe and fallow deer, muntjac, foxes, badgers and birds of all sorts. A bit later, commoners were allowed to let their horses, donkeys and New forest ponies, a breed that originates from the area, to room for free all over the land meaning that tens of thousands of these horses can still be seen to this day running through the purple heather and the lush woodlands giving the area a unique atmosphere. NOW, the New forest is not only covered with woodlands but also with heaths, meaning that heather, a purple flower bush is now covering the almost entirety of the pasture and this time of the year is the best to enjoy the national parc in all its glory. England has some of the world's most stunning heath lands and the New forest must be one of its most famous. This hike is a big tick on your list of England's most famous hiking trails and a glorious one so why not join us for a walk through a fairy tale? This hike will connect the New Forest trail to the Solent way where we will have a short stroll along the sea with some glorious views of the Isle of Wight and is one of my most varied. Solar Eclipse (Partial) - plus (optional) Perseids after dark

There is a partial (but quite deep) solar eclipse on August 12 - to see a total eclipse you'd need to be in Spain or maybe Canada. Join us to see it together on Tooting Common (near Dr. Johnson Avenue car park and bus stop). It starts 6.17pm, maximum coverage (91%) at 7.13pm, and the moon leaves the sun at 8.06pm. As a partial eclipse (total in Spain and some other places) it will only get a little darker and cooler, but if weather allows, we will be able to see the moon as it crosses the sun up to 91.43% covered, and use suitably filtered equipment to see it close-up and any current sunspots during the event. I'll bring my telescope with a Baader solar filter and I'll have plenty of card solar eclipse sunglasses for us all (though if you have other safe equipment you're welcome to bring it, especially if you have a specialised highly-filtered solar-scope showing prominences and the hydrogen-alpha wavelengths view). **Safety Notice** DO NOT STARE AT THE SUN OR USE ANY OPTICAL EQUIPMENT WITHOUT PROPER GUIDANCE AND SAFETY. Families welcome, but please keep watch on children in your care for their safety - any equipment brought must be suitably protected and watched at all times so no safety filters are removed while pointed towards the sun or other risks. We have some safely filtered for sun-gazing sunglasses provided at low cost courteously by Astronomers Across Borders via [GoStargazing](https://www.gostargazing.co.uk/) to distribute to anyone who doesn't have one already (if you wish to contribute to our monthly Meetup running costs, please get in touch on the day or by online message). I expect some passers by on the path may be interested too. It's also the peak of the [Perseid meteor](https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/space-astronomy/perseid-meteor-shower-guide-uk-when-where-to-see) shower which runs from 17 July to the end of August. If enough people want to stay and watch out for shooting stars, I might be up for a half-impromptu meet around the same area afterwards if the sky is clear enough, or after a stop for food. Bring snacks if you like! No equipment needed for Perseid watching, but something to sit/lie back on that you can look upwards for a long time without hurting your neck can be helpful. **Meetpoint/Travel:** We will meet in the park, on the other side of Dr. Johnson Avenue to the car park on that road (nearer the top end of the car park, away from the main road so the trees/buildings opposite don't obscure the view as the sun sets). A scenic Sunday walk through one of London’s most beautiful open landscapes — **Bushy Park** — followed by a peaceful riverside walk along the **Thames Path**. Expect wide open views, ancient woodland, historic parkland, and a chance to spot **herds of free-roaming deer**. Finsbury Park and Woodberry Wetlands, 4 miles

* We will meet outside the Finsbury Park station, main entrance. Please aim for Station Place (pictured below). Please arrive at 11:50 for registration and for 12:00 prompt departure. * We will then make our way to see via Finsbury Park to arrive *at Woodberry Wetlands. This was opened by Sir David Attenborough in 2016, having previously been known as Stoke Newington East Reservoir.* * *The wetlands are the result of a proposal by the Trust to enhance the reservoir for wildlife and open it publicly so people can access a high quality, natural space in a densely built-up environment. The site is owned by Thames Water and managed by London Wildlife Trust.* * The nature reserve is managed by a volunteering team who help maintain reedbeds, grassland and hedgerows through regular conservation volunteering workdays. A programme of wildlife monitoring and surveys is also undertaken. * We will then return to Finsbury Park Station where the walk ends. Members who prefer a shorter version can take the tube at Manor House station, which is on route, Optional food/drinks at the end of the walk. What to bring: Comfortable footwear Water Photo-taking gadgets and chargers An umbrella just in case (it's London after all) The walk is free for members who have subscribed for an annual membership. For other members the fee is £5 cash/card on arrival to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees and costs. The annual pass option is £15 payable by cash or card on the day. This will provide access to at least 40 walks per year (members are welcome to bring a guest to each event).
