Pitch Your Friend in London

From Pitch Your Friend & Dating Events

Dating in 2026 can be hard. Who *doesn’t* have app fatigue? Join us at The London Art Bar for an IRL dating experience like no other. In this event, you’ll get a chance to pitch your friend to a room full of awesome other singles. **If you’re pitching**: all you need to do is create a 3-5 minute slide deck (Google Slides, PowerPoint - whatever you prefer) that shows off all the best things about your friend. You’ll then need to take to the mic and give your pitch to the room. You might just be playing cupid! We will have time for mingling in the break and after the pitches - so plenty of time to work your charm if someone catches your eye. These events typically have 40-60 people at them, booking from all sorts of different places, not just Meetup. **Not pitching? No worries - there are plenty of spots in the audience** and you’ll still get to join in with the mingling of course. **Doors will open at 7PM with the presentations starting from about 8PM.** **Key info for pitchers:** * To pitch you will need to book a ticket at [garethlewis.co/events](garethlewis.co/events) * Please arrive at the venue close to 7PM so we can introduce you to the equipment and run through any issues * You can make your presentations in a range of formats (Canva, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides). Please send them to hello@garethlewis.co no later than 24 hours before the event in either Google Slides or PowerPoint format. * When making your presentations, please be mindful of your friend’s privacy. Don’t include anything they will be mortified to have featured, and consult with them what contact details are appropriate to share (or not). Instagram handles might be okay, but not home addresses! * Please get in touch at hello@garethlewis.co if you have any questions or accessibility needs.

The Crab & Winkle Way: Visit Canterbury, hike to Whitstable for the sunset

The Crab & Winkle Way: Visit Canterbury, hike to Whitstable for the sunset

Sun, Jul 19, 7:30 AM
From Jon's Trails
4.9

Yaaaaayyyy it is time to hit the road again for a beautiful hike and the visit of this absolutely beautiful city in good company! We will start our trip in Canterbury, the old, the very old city and will have a stroll around before beginning the hike all the way to the sea via the famous Crab and Winkle way. Fun enough, we will begin our trip in what is the end of the Pilgrim Way, a city where millions of people have ended their Pilgrimage over the centuries and where Christianity started in Britain... In 597 AD, St. Augustine led a mission from Rome to Christianize Kent. He converted King Æthelberht of Kent, whose queen was already a Christian. St. Augustine became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in 601 AD. This trip will take us through some beautiful landscapes, including a beautiful forest in its autumnal colours, an old town and the seaside. Canterbury is a popular tourist destination: consistently one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom. The city has been occupied since Paleolithic times and served as the capital of the Celtic Cantiaci and Jute Kingdom of Kent. Many historical structures fill the area, including a city wall founded in Roman times and rebuilt in the 14th century, the ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and a Norman castle, and the oldest extant school in the world, the King's School. It was home to Saint Thomas and became the destination of the pilgrimage that started from Winchester and ended in Canterbury, know as the Pilgrim way and that his followers had followed for centuries. Known for its cathedral and beautifully preserved old buildings, we will kick off our trip with a wander in these pretty streets before we hike to the sea! And if they are open, I know a delightful crepes place where we can take away a treat to get some energy before we hit the road! Imagine this tasty crepe with hot chocolate and some fruits and whip cream if you want to go full on fatty caressing your taste buds and the warmth of it leaking down your throat... :) After we have taken some lovely picture, we will follow the famous Crab and Winkle way, an ancient railway line that once linked the two beautiful places, one of the first passenger lines in the country! And today, another famous hike. We will walk through beautiful forests and countryside. There will be a not so pretty bit by the road for about 10 minutes when we leave Canterbury but after that, beauty will pave the way :) As we arrived to the end of our trip, you will begin to scent the smell of the sea as it awaits us for the sunset, the apotheosis of our trip if weather allows... Whitstable is a fishing village and one of the most popular seaside towns in Kent, it was famous for its oysters from Roman times all the way to the middle of the 20th century and its traditional architecture will delight us and as usual, for those who wish, we will probably grab a pint and a good old fish and chips, a veggie meal or whatever you fancy eating or drinking. Come on, you know you want to join me for some fun! 🍻 Farewell Drinks Before My Move to Liverpool! 🥾 Before I relocate, I’d love to see everyone for some drinks and a catch-up at the Lion and Unicorn Wetherspoon in Waterloo on Thursday 30/07 from 18:30. I’m not disappearing! I’ll still be coming down for hikes whenever I can, and I’ll be exploring new routes further North around Liverpool and beyond. It would be great to have a drink together before the move and celebrate all the walks and adventures we’ve shared. Hope to see you there! 🍻🥾

The shorter Seven Sisters, Friston Forest, and Cuckmere Haven

The shorter Seven Sisters, Friston Forest, and Cuckmere Haven

Sun, Aug 2, 8:00 AM
From Jon's Trails

Hey, Hey, Hey! It is the weekend and what do we do on a Sundat? We join me on a fabulous trip. :) This is one of the most fantastic coastal trips in the country and we are doing an easier version of it. There will be a few inclines but nothing like the nearby Seven sisters that you will see in the background so if you would like to enjoy walking in a living painting, join me for this trip. We will start and finish in the seaside town of Seaford, walk these gorgeous woods of Friston alongside pretty cottages and flowery gardens before we head back to Seaford for a well deserved diner or a pint or to London if you do not wish to stay along for some more laughter. And last but not least, the view of the Cuckmere river sneaking in the valley all the way to the sea is my favourite postcard view in the country, you could almost hear Vivaldi playing Spring in the background while unicorns and fauns are galloping in the fresh water. Really, do not miss it. The hike is around 10 miles and medium, although there will be a couple of inclines. A BIT OF HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY. FRISTON FOREST: Friston Forest is within the South Downs National Park between Lulington Heath National Nature Reserve and Seven Sisters Country Park. It is the largest area of recently established forest in South East England, it has extensive carpets of Bluebells in late April to mid-May and some of the most stunning autumnal colours at the fall. CUCKMERE HAVEN: It is an area of flood plains in Sussex, England where the river Cuckmeer meets the English Chanel between [Eastbourne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastbourne) and [Seaford](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaford,_East_Sussex). The river is an example of a meandering river The beach was commonly used by smugglers in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. For example, in 1783 two gangs of smugglers (each numbering 200 or 300) overcame officers of the law by weight of numbers and carried away a large quantity of goods. It is one of the most visited beaches in the UK. PICTURE PERFECT: The Haven and the nearby cliffs offer some of the most stunning photographs you will ever take, the purple sea thrift flowers adding an impeccable touch to the white and red cliffs INFORMATION: DISTANCE: About 10 miles/15km TIME: about 5 hours TRANSPORT: By train; we will buy an off peak group days return that will allow us to save 35%on the ticket price. Please ensure that you bring £25 in cash MEETING POINT: Victoria station at 9am PRICE: £15 ( for the guide's fee) via PayPal or credit/debit card About £27 in cash for the train or via bank transfer to Wendy INCLUDED: Guided hike A fun day out with lovely people NOT INCLUDED: Transport Anything else not mentioned above WHAT TO BRING: Waterproof shoes for the hike, preferably hiking shoes, otherwise good trainers; Weather appropriate clothes, including waterproofs if there is a chance of rain; Water bottle; Packed lunch and snacks.
