Whale Watching: Watsons Bay to Maroubra!!! 18km Medium

**Whale Watching Day!!! Watson’s Bay to Maroubra 18 km (Medium)** We ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay and commence our walk out of South Head, and along the Federation walk, navigating Diamond Bay and Dover Heights before dropping down to North Bondi. Leaving Bondi Beach behind, we strike out for Tamarrama and Bronte, where we stop for a nice lunch break of 45 minutes. Following lunch we head for Maroubra via Clovelly and Coogee Beaches. We stop at Mistral Point before marching into Maroubra where we will invade the Maroubra Seals Club for a tasty beer (and food if desired - its pretty tasty, I have to say!), before grabbing a bus back to the City. The ocean front scenery on this walk is stunning! Hopefully we will spot **Humpback whales** during the day; it is likely that we will. We should arrive at Maroubra by about 4:30pm. Please **bring photo ID**, to gain entrance to the Maroubra Seals Club. **Distance:** 18 km **Type of Walk:** Almost the entire walk is along ocean front promenades. **Difficulty:** Medium, because of the distance. If you are unsure about the distance but would like to test yourself this is a walk for you: there are plenty of get-out points. **Walking Pace:** We will average 4.5 km per hour. **Meeting Place and Transport:** We catch the Watsons Bay Ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 2. The Ferry leaves Circular Quay at 9:45 am and arrives at Watsons Bay at 10:08am. Read on...** VIVID is back, and the drone show should be cool! *(Well, let's be honest, the drone show should be "fixed" as our first VIVID walk was a fizzer and some were falling into the water as the show had technical difficulties!)* But it's great to do VIVID on a Monday - one of the least crowded days of the week... and we'll finish at my local pub as Monday's offer half-priced wings, ribs, and drinks (optional, as you may want to get home). **THE HIKE.** Let's meet at Paragon Hotel down at Circular Quay. Let's chat in whatsapp on the day so you can find me from **545pm**. We'll see the lights go on at 6pm on the dot and *see Customs House, the MCA, Syd Opera House, etc... all the way to Barangaroo, King St Wharf, and the drone show starts at 730pm finishing at 740pm. It will be crowded and hard to keep the group together, so make your own way to Sporting Globe by 4Pines. I'll already be at the table.* **Sporting Globe is my local pub, so I'll grab a table... 50% off wings, ribs, selected pints, and house wine. What a deal!!! 24 wings should be like $22, so if everybody brings $11 cash, I'll order a bunch of wings / flavours at 745pm - they'll be on the table as you arrive at the pub - just make sure everybody gets their 12 - it's def enough (if you want wings, that is). Last, I have a furtherr 20% off VIP Card - get it from me before you order at the bar - that's how I got 12 wings and a Pint for $15!!!** So we get to the drone show on time, I'll move at about 3.5kms per hour - it's up to you to keep up. WHALE DAY! Bondi Junction - Watsons Bay! 14KM Medium

We meet at **Bondi Junction Train Station, at Bus Stand F (easy to find)** by no later than **10:30AM** to commence our walk down to Bondi Beach. We check out Ben Buckler Point and a host of parks spread through Dover Heights before pulling up, 8KM in, at **Signal Station Park** for lunch and clean bathrooms. **NO FOOD SHOPS AT LUNCH BREAK, SO BRING YOUR FOOD.** After lunch we re-join the **Federation Walk**, passing **Macquarie Lighthouse** on our way to the Gap. We climb out via the Bluff walking track and skirt around **Naval Warfare Training Base Watson** to find South Head and the historic **Hornby Lighthouse**. We return to Watsons Bay Ferry Wharf via Lady Jane Beach, **Camp Cove** and Green Point Reserve. Vivid - Tuesday evening walk

Vivid is back again for three weeks! Tonight we will walk to the Barangaroo Reserve and then return south beside Darling Harbour to view the multiple Vivid artworks. Out aim will be to be somewhere near the Pyrmont Bridge between 7:30 - 7:40 to view the drone show. Let us keep our fingers crossed that the weather is suitable for the drones to fly **and they have fixed the problem which caused 89 drones to fall into the harbour last Monday.** Afterword we will adjourn to the Arthouse Hotel for a debriefing. **LIMIT 10 PEOPLE:** Any more in Vivid crowds would be worse than attempting to herd cats. **RISK:** Please remember that you attend our events at your own risk and that our Organizers do not accept any liability for any health or safety problems that occur during our events. **MEMBERSHIP:** All members will need to be Financial 2025 to join this walk. Classic Grand Cliff Top Walk! From Leura to Scenic World.

**Be prepared for incredible views!** **This walk goes through a series of lookouts as we follow the restored sandstone track passing through countless waterfalls and ups/downs. It meanders through diverse flora and fauna that call the dense rainforest ecology home.** **We will start at Leura Train Station (meet outside the train station) at 9.50am sharp (a train leaves Central at 7:26am from Platform 18, change to a bus at Blacktown which arrives at Leura Train Station at 9.53am).** **From here we will make our way to Gordon Falls Picnic area and get on Prince Henry Cliff Walk and go past a number of lookouts including Elysiam Rock, Olympic Rosk, Tarpein Rock and others before reaching Leura Cascades.** **More lookouts on the way to Katoomba, taking in views over the Jamison Valley towards Mount Solitary, the Three Sisters and Echo Point.** **From here, we continue on the Prince Henry Cliff Walk to a number of other lookouts before passing Katoomba Falls and eventually arriving at Scenic World.** **There is the opportunity to exit the walk at some other places along the way.** **We will aim to finish by 3.00pm at Scenic World, from which we can catch a bus to Katoomba Train Station for a train back to Sydney.** **\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*** **DISTANCE: 12 km.** **GRADE: Medium, Grade 3.** **NOTE: A few get out points along the way, especially close to Leura. MEETING: Central Station 10am. Platform 25, though this may change Or Tempe Station at 10:15 🌸✈️🌸 TIME: 10am Central 10:15 Tempe 🌸⏰🌸 DETAILS: Feel like you’re the only one not heading to Europe for the Winter? Problem solved…. The glorious white sands of Sans Souci and Dolls Point will fix that! We walk from Tempe Station via Kendrick Park and the Cooks River, Cahill Park, Riverine Park, Cahill Park, the Chinese Vegetable and Produce Gardens via Muddy Creek then hit the Coast at Brighton Le Sands…. Our first glimpse of the white sand, and a few aircraft taking off. The coastal walk from there to Dolls Point is easy, flat and paved. This walk has the added bonus of the St George Sailing Club if you’re thirsty and want to take in more of the view at the finish. Easy: Mainly flat, suburban, loads of get out points, up to 14kms.
Easy-Medium: some stairs, a few uneven surfaces, up to 15kms.
Medium: Stairs, rocks, coastal beaches/sand, ups, downs, get out points limited, up to 17kms
Medium-Hard: uneven surfaces, need to take extreme care and be hike fit. Few get out points. Tracks, uneven surfaces, steep inclinations and limited resources. 🌸👯‍♀️🌸 WALKING GUIDELINES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Carry sufficient food and water (2 litres) for the expected conditions of the walk. Pls don’t separate from the group, unless you let someone know, preferably me. The waitlist is completely discretionary….reliable regulars will ALWAYS be included. 🆗……….If you are a no show, you will not be welcome to join a future walk with me. (It’s a courtesy kind of thing). If people are on the waitlist, it is also very inconsiderate.
