Safari at the Werribee Open Range Zoo

Join me for a full day out at Werribee Open Range Zoo — open grasslands, a free safari bus ride past rhinos, giraffes and zebras, and keeper talks running right through the day. It's one of those places that feels a long way from the city without actually being far at all. We'll travel out together by public transport. Meet me at Boost Juice inside Southern Cross Station at 7:45am, we'll walk to the platform together and catch the 8:04am train, then the connecting bus to the zoo, arriving around 9:29am. If that's too early for you, you're very welcome to make your own way there and meet us at the zoo entrance instead — just let me know so we can look out for you. Once we're in we'll take our time: hop on the safari bus, catch a few keeper talks, wander the walking trails and stop for lunch somewhere along the way. It's a relaxed day, not a race to see everything. One important thing: a Meetup RSVP is not a zoo ticket. Solar Tour at Melbourne Observatory – Daytime Sun Viewing

Join me for a daytime astronomy session at the historic Melbourne Observatory, next to the Royal Botanic Gardens. On the Solar Tour, we'll look at the Sun safely through restored historic telescopes: the 4-inch Photoheliograph, plus a solar projection with the Troughton & Simms telescope. Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria says you can expect to see details on the Sun's surface, including sunspots and solar granulation, and to hear about the history of solar astronomy. It suits curious first-timers as well as keen space fans. We'll meet outside the Royal Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre at 12:30pm for a quick hello, then join the 1:00pm tour. The tour runs for about 1.5 hours, and the meetup finishes when it ends at around 2:30pm. A Meetup RSVP does not include entry. We will be heading to Victoria's spectacular pink lake in Dimboola (Nearly 350km away from Melbourne). We will be hiring a bus with a driver. If you plan on going into the lake, please bring gumboots knee high. These can be purchased from Kmart or Anaconda or other stores. We will book a 24 seater bus with a driver. Description: Join me to meander along the two-kilometre nature trail in this bushland oasis. We'll enjoy this beautiful environment together as we take in the sights, sounds and stillness of nature. Agenda: 9.50. I'll meet you at the car park above Newport Lakes near the Newport Lakes sign. 10.0am. Walk around the trails in the reserve. After the walk, we'll go to the picnic area to enjoy refreshments. Please bring your own refreshments as there is nothing nearby. We’re planning approximately 2 hours of walking, returning around 11:00 am. You’re welcome to walk at your own pace.
