4th Sunday -October 25th Tree Planting

Looking for a small but impactful way to help in the fight against climate change, and green your community over a weekend? Volunteer to plant trees! Our Tree Team plants trees in sidewalks all around Oakland. As these trees grow, they help to improve air quality, sequester carbon, and improve the environmental conditions of our neighborhoods. Many of the beautiful large trees you see along sidewalks are a result of our volunteers, and we still have so much more to do. No experience is required, but volunteers should be ready to do some digging and get a bit dirty. What: Planting trees along sidewalks and streets in Oakland for homeowners. After the training, we will split into smaller groups and drive to the sites. Who: You! Bring your friends and/or make new ones. No experience is needed. You should be able to lift 30 pounds (half the weight of a new tree). What to Bring: Wear closed-toed shoes, clothes that you can get dirty, and a hat for sun protection; bring your own water, lunch and a snack. We'll provide the shovels, picks, brooms, and gloves, but if you have your own please bring them along as we are short on supplies these days. If you are bringing a minor, please let us know. How: Dig a hole, take the tree out of its pot and put it into the ground, backfill the soil around the roots, and sweep the sidewalk clean. (Don't worry; we'll teach you whatever you don't know -- or take a peek at the guide here: [https://www.treesforoakland.org/how-we-plant.html](https://www.treesforoakland.org/how-we-plant.html) Where: Meet at our staging area (**3000 California St. Oakland 94602)**. The trees will be in other places around town, so **please be on time** so we can meet before we disperse. We can plant in light rain, but if we decide to cancel because of heavier rain, we'll announce it here by 8am. For more information or to join our email list, contact us at treesforoakland.org Note: There is no bathroom on-site so make sure to go before you arrive! **If you are lost or running late, call or text Bart at 510 917 4352**

Parker Street Co-op Tour: 2 1BR homes available (in-person, S. Berkeley)

*Not quite cohousing (no Common House or common meals besides the monthly potluck, different sets of apartments have separate entrances across different buildings), but very affordable in a great location. Demand is high so expect a competitive application process. -- Raines* \-\-\- The Parker Street Cooperative is a 24-unit limited equity housing cooperative in Berkeley, California, established in 1988. 24 units in two buildings, convenient to BART and public transportation, on the South side of campus (close to Dwight & Telegraph) at 2335-2341 Parker Street. The coop is owned by a non-profit corporation whose only members are its shareholder residents, and we are currently ages 30 to 92. We buy our shares at a modest rate and agree to limits on their price when selling them later. The current share price is about $30,600 for the 1BR share, with a monthly assessment for common expenses of about $675 for the 1BR unit. Studio share price and monthly assessment are 75% of the 1BR rates. In addition to the refundable $30,600 share price, there is a a required one-time, nonrefundable $6,000 capital reserves contribution for incoming members. Food is not included in the shared expenses, and we do not do shared cooking other than one shared potluck meal per month. We live simply and co-own/manage the property together to keep it affordable for us and for those who come after us. We will be accepting applications for our two 1-bedroom membership openings until 11:59pm on November 1st, 2026. We will also be providing two tours before then, [Sunday the 18th](https://www.meetup.com/ebcoho/events/317035837/) and today.
