Some chess sets will be provided but feel free to bring your own equipment. Please RSVP with number of guests if you plan to attend. We play chess between 1:30 - 6:00PM. Welcome! The DTLA Chess Club is a lovely gathering every Sunday afternoon! This casual club is completely free and open to everyone! For three years, the DTLA Chess Club has been meeting at the Il Cafe, a lovely coffee shop with food and beverage options. (they also have beer/wine) As this event is held on the outside patio, on street level, dress appropriate for the weather. It is a fantastic and friendly group that has the feel of the famous New York Central Park chess scene. You may even be lucky to meet some celebrity chess players! Drop in whenever, grab some games, and enjoy the beautiful Downtown architecture! Other Notes: -If it is raining, or incredibly windy, the DTLA Chess Club will be cancelled automatically, regardless if we remember to update meetup. -This club has seasonal tournaments, and will be announcing special events, which are planned to occur once a month on Friday evenings, so stay tuned! This event will take place on the second floor of a building without an elevator. If you require assistance, please contact us at least 2 days before the event.** **Learn how to play *Hong Kong*-style mahjong in a non-competitive setting.** This club is open to people wishing to learn how to play mahjong with no prior experience. Some members of this club have attended previous meetings and returned to practice their skills before attempting to play more advanced mahjong events around LA. For beginners or those needing a refresher, an optional introductory mahjong presentation and demonstration will be given at **6:30 PM**. **Most people are able to play (and win!) mahjong on their own after this presentation.** Guided gameplay with other new players is offered after the presentation. Due to the need for 4 people per mahjong table and to avoid people reserving a seat but failing to show up, **we cannot offer refunds. If you plan to attend the class, please be on time as lessons will promptly begin at 6:30 PM.** **Parking**: There is **no parking** offered at our location, so please be prepared to find street parking or use a paid parking lot. The most affordable parking lot is $5 at Mandarin Plaza (986 N Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012). They close at 10 PM. An additional paid parking lot is on Broadway next to Wonder Bakery. Metered street parking is free after 8 PM. **Due to events in Chinatown, parking lots and street parking are sometimes full, so please be prepared during major holidays and popular events.** **Transportation**: The LA Metro Chinatown Station services the A Line lightrail and is located a block away from our club. Several popular LA Metro bus lines serve Chinatown Plaza and will drop you off on the same block as our club. Some of the buses include: 4, 45, 81, 90, 94, DASH Lincoln Heights/Chinatown Clockwise and the DASH B. The $16 fee will be used to maintain the space and purchase more mahjong equipment. Welcome to the Burbank Chess Social! We meet every Monday in McCambridge Park! Join us for either casual//competitive chess games---outside in a beautiful park! There are usually 18 or so of us, and most of us are entertaining enough. One of the things that makes this club unique, is the occasional grilling we do! Scrumptious food may be included, as members often bring food to share. **July Chess Social at Mitsi** We found a new & splendid place for some chess! This month, the Chess Social will be held for the first time at Mitsi, a beautifully designed cocktail lounge, that has only recently opened its doors! With its warm atmosphere, thoughtful design, and indoor/outdoor spaces, it's the perfect setting for an evening of chess, conversation, and live music. Whether you're a regular, a veteran, a casual player, or someone who's been meaning to shake off the rust after a long hiatus, you'll find a seat waiting for you. Come for one game or twenty. Stay for five minutes…or, even better… the whole evening! There are no brackets, no pressure, and no membership required. Just good people, interesting games, and the occasional brilliantly hung queen. Throughout the night, enjoy live music from local musicians, creating a mood that complements the evening, without being too loud, or getting in the way of the games.
