Downey Library Game Day

Come play board games and card games with us at the Downey Library. We welcome starting players all the way to expert players. Please bring a copy of the games you would like to play, or we have copies to play. The Downey Public Library also has a collection of games to play. Some examples of popular board games are Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and Terraforming Mars. Some examples of popular card games are Flip 7, Century Spice Road, and Splendor. We like to learn new games and to teach new games. There is no fee, and food and drink is welcome, just please clean up after yourself. We are in the area, to the left of the main entrance. Food Distribution 🛒 Network

Urban Partners Los Angeles’ “Groceries for our Neighbors” food distribution program provides essential weekly groceries to thousands of low-income, homeless, and senior members of the community in Los Angeles. Volunteers make up a large part of the program, with a small number of staff members coming from the community we serve. This initiative has been a vital resource for those in need for over 32 years, and we are committed to continuing to support our community through it. Each week, approximately 35,000 people in our community struggle with food insecurity, and around 10,000 members may go without meals due to financial constraints. Our relief efforts aim to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry, especially vulnerable populations. We are dedicated to securing our food and funding reserves in order to respond effectively to emergencies and handle the ongoing pandemic and its aftermath, as well as future Crises. We distribute, on average, over 30,000 pounds of food every Saturday. Our goal is to provide enough groceries for a family of four to sustain themselves for one week. Our ability to continue to operate is due in large part to the generous support of businesses and individual donors who believe in our mission to alleviate hunger for struggling Los Angeles families. If you would like to join us on the frontlines and help fight hunger in our community, we welcome your assistance at our food bank. We operate on Saturdays from 6:00 am to 9:30 am, rain or shine, some holidays excluded. Come hang out, meet great people, and enjoy a chill board game night at Namiko Studio Cafe ✨ Whether you’re a serious board gamer or just here for the vibes, everyone is welcome — even your 🐶💛. Part of the night we’ll be using their outside tables, and it gets pretty chilly, so please bring a really warm 🧥 jacket. We’ll have some games available, but feel free to bring a favorite you'd like to share! ✨ We’re grateful to this café for letting us use their space. To keep this event free we kindly ask that all participants **purchase a drink or snack during the event.** Most importantly, ✨ **be** **respectful and kind**, so that everyone can have a fun and comfortable time together 🌿💫 **IMPORTANT:** * The **cafe closes at 7:30pm** but they are keeping the secret garden in the back open for us until 10:00pm. If you are coming to the event **after 7:30pm the front door will be locked and you will need to enter through the brown gate in the back** parking lot. You can find it by driving into the alley on N Edinburgh Ave and making a left into the black iron gate, then you will see the brown wooden gate. * **No outside food or drinks** are allowed**.** **PARKING:** * There are three free street parking spots on N Edinburgh Ave. Make sure to always read the signs! * There is plenty of metered parking, free after 8:00 pm. * You are also able to park in the gym spots in the back parking lot after 7:30pm only (the gym closes at 7:30 pm).
