Evening walk in Beverly Hills

Evening walk in Beverly Hills

Tue, Jun 30, 1:00 AM
From Los Angeles Hiking Group
4.8

We will leave by 6:05, so aim to arrive by 6. Walk is about 3 or 5 miles (depending) on route and will be flat. If we do the 3 mile walk, the time is about 1 hour, if the 5 mile, it's about 1 hour 45 minutes. Both are estimates. 2 hours street parking until 8, no parking after 8, so we need to back by 8 to be safe. **This is NOT a training walk,** but I prefer to only stop for restroom breaks (this is a restroom walk). I want to walk together as a group and keep a steady pace. If people want to go walk faster and get to far ahead of me or lag to far behind, they are not part of the group. It’s your responsibility to be within eyesight myself and the main group and pay attention. Before major change in the path, I will wait for people to catch up, but if someone is to far behind or ahead, I assume they are not with the group. I know where we are going and the route can chance. If people want to walk faster, I can tell them where to wait for the main group before any turns. You can use ***9105 Carmelita Ave 90210*** as a location for your GPS map, we will meet across the street, by the park, either by the fountain by the bench. • Meeting location is Garden Park, Off West of Doheny just north of Santa Monica Blvd. NOT MEETING ON SANTA MONICA BLVD but on Carmelita at the small park, I added a photo. You can use 9105 Carmelita Ave 90210 as a location for your GPS map, it is the building across the street. There no parking limitations on Sunday. Urban Hybrid Hike in Los Feliz and Vermont Canyon, Level: Moderate+

Urban Hybrid Hike in Los Feliz and Vermont Canyon, Level: Moderate+

Wed, Jul 1, 1:00 AM
From Los Angeles Hiking Group
4.8

Come join us for a great workout, for exploring unique parts of town and for meeting new people to do an urban hybrid hike in one of the most beautiful parts of Los Angeles: Los Feliz. The hike includes some stairs and it is partially on fire road/wide trail in the Vermont Canyon/Griffith Park area. We will get to enjoy interesting architecture varying from mansions to historical buildings, including the Ennis House (by Frank Lloyd Wright , 1924), on winding narrow roads with lush greenery. The views of DTLA will be gorgeous as well. The highest point will be the Heli-Pad in Griffith Park. **LEVEL**: The route itself is fairly moderate, no extreme inclines or rough trails, but our speed is above moderate (below advanced). While we love to socialize and we do encourage newcomers, please note that moderate+ cardio fitness and brisk walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 5.4 miles, 2 long staircases up and 2 down. 1100 ft elevation gain. 2- 2 1/4 hours. **SPEED**: Brisk, with a short pause to re-group at the top of the stairs and the steepest hills. There will be no sweep; bring a phone map just in case you want to leave early. **BRING**: Exercise outfit, hiking shoes or tennies with good grip (4 miles on paved roads, 1+ mile on dirt trail. The trail section will have one moderately steep downhill part) and water. **RESTROOMS**: None at the start. We'll pause at the halfway point in Vermont Park for restrooms. **LOCATION**: We meet at 6.00pm for introductions and take off sharply at 6.05pm. (If you are a few minutes late you can drive to corner of N. Berendo St. Cromwell Ave. and catch us there) **PARKING**: Easy, plentiful unlimited street parking. **Alert: do not fully trust the GPS, depending on your phone and app it may be slightly off.** Check a map for street names! **PLEASE NO CRASHING**: Urban hikes do not work well with large groups, so, unfortunately, the space is limited. I "overbook" events in anticipation of some last-minute dropouts, so you cannot count on those spots being available. Waitlist, if needed, generally clears in order but priority may be given to members with good attendance records and a posted picture (LA Hiking group rule). **LIABILITY**: The organizer is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, medical issues, assessing safety concerns, material losses and for getting lost. Each member shall release the organizer from all liability and have their guests accept these policies, also.

4th of July Stair Hike in Echo Park, Level: Moderate++

4th of July Stair Hike in Echo Park, Level: Moderate++

Sat, Jul 4, 4:30 PM
From Los Angeles Hiking Group
4.8

Come join us on our 250th Independence Day for a challenging workout and for wishing a happy holiday for our hiking friends, old and new, perhaps before other, more indulgent, activities of the day. We'll do an urban stair hike in the hilliest, residential part of Echo Park going through the cutest narrow streets, the steepest hills and hidden staircases. We will be awarded gorgeous views of multiple parts of LA. **LEVEL**: Intermediate Plus for speed. Extra PLUS for the amount of stairs/steep hills we will be climbing. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourage newcomers, but please note that moderate++ level of cardio fitness and brisk walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 4.9 miles, 1275 ft gain, (which as a stair hike may be tougher than it sounds) 10 long staircases up, 4 down + steep hills. Baxter alone is 232 steps! +/- 2h. **SPEED**: Above most moderate hikes, but below advanced. We'll take a short pause to re-group at the top of the stairs and the steepest hills. There will be no sweep, bring a phone for navigation just in case you want to leave early. **BRING**: Exercise outfit, workout shoes (hiking shoes are not necessary as trail sections are short), sunscreen and water. **LOCATION**: We'll meet at 9.30am for introductions and take off sharply at 9.35am. We meet at the street corner of Echo Park Ave. and Baxter St. (If you are running up to 15min minutes late meet us at the corner of Echo Park Blvd and Avalon St.) **-DO NOT FULLY TRUST THE GPS LINK. DEPENDING ON YOUR PHONE AND APP IT MAY BE SLIGHTLY OFF!** **-TAKE ECHO PARK AVE. INTO THE MEETING AREA TO AVOID SCARY HILL DRIVING!** **PARKING**: Street parking. If we fill up the spots right at the intersection you can go behind the school and find easy parking on Valentine St. **RESTROOMS**: None, (possibly port-a-potties on the way) **LIABILITY**: The organizer is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, health issues, material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. Each member shall make their guests aware of these policies and releases the host from all liability.
