Seniors - Interactive & Therapeutic Music Session - Playing, Jamming, Dancing!

This meetup group is all about appreciating the wonderful music (pop, soul, rock, jazz) of decades past, roughly encompassing the 50's to the 80's. We use music to facilitate interaction and for the therapeutic benefits, especially for seniors, of rhythm-based music therapy. As a professional drummer and songwriter, I have found that listening to and enjoying music from a rhythmic standpoint has great benefits for people of any musical background. The only requirement is that you enjoy music too! This particular group is open to all individuals in the area who are at least 55 years in age. I have carried out many sessions like this with great results, as I especially love bringing joy to seniors, who too often don't have viable social opportunities and don't have any way of revisiting good memories from their youth via music. The primary reason to join this group is to HAVE FUN! To expand on that, the fun you have during these sessions is based on simultaneous appreciation of music and positive social interaction with an individual who is not necessarily in your age group (ME!). If you would like to enjoy not just listening to music, but interactively getting INSIDE the music by rhythmically playing along or clapping, then join! If you are looking to meet other like-minded, music-loving seniors, then join! If you want to have a unique experience enjoying music you love while creating lasting friendship, then join! While I certainly offer musical knowledge with each session and information regarding the instruments and the music that I bring, my priority is for you to have a great time while also possibly learning something about music! In a typical session, we begin by chatting for a few minutes about music (or any other topic!). Oftentimes, I will then do a quick performance to demonstrate the rhythmic approach to listening to music. Then, I pass out small instruments to whoever may be interested while we play, sing, clap, and dance! If you have limited mobility, you can still join in with small percussion instruments that I bring, or you can simply watch and listen. You will forget your aches and pains for an hour as we jam together within the context of music you love, like Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Benny Goodman, the Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, and a whole lot more. I often dance with and interact with everyone in the room while we play our instruments and forget our worries inside the music. If you're a senior who loves music, join our group today! Day Trip to Huntington Library, Art Museum, Gardens & Tea Room

Lower Intermediate to Intermediate Pickleball in South Pasadena (FREE)

Come join us for weekly friendly games of lower intermediate to intermediate level pickleball! Our goal is to create a group of reliable regulars and newcomers that are roughly the same level and want to play just for social fun and exercise, but still challenge themselves to play better and better. (This is our first event to just to get things going, but once the heat subsides we'll set our permanent time and confirm the location) **LEVEL**: Lower intermediate to fully intermediate, approx. 2.8-3.5 level. We are friendly and welcoming, but this is **NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS OR EVEN ADVANCED BEGINNERS.** If you are advanced intermediate (above 3.5) feel free to join us, but take it easy on the smashing and be encouraging towards the rest of us.) **HOW IT WORKS:** We'll play on two courts and ideally we need 10-12 players for the best experience. **EVERYONE WILL GET TO PLAY MOST OF THE TIME** and against most other players. No cliques here! The winning pair on court A will move to court B and the losing pair will stay. The losing pair from court B will queue up for court A. Everyone will switch partners each time. Most people will keep on moving in-between the courts depending on the level of their partner and one should not care too much about the court for a friendly experience. **COMMITMENT:** Because we need exactly 10-12 people it is important that people sign up only if they are fairly certain that they will attend and drop out as early as possible, if necessary. We need eight people to start and finish on both courts, so please be on time and plan to stay for full 2h. If some people want to play another 1/2-1h I will stay to provide the nets. No guests allowed, unless I know them and I add them as my guests. **WAITLIST** (if needed) Regulars with good attendance records will get some priority. **NO CRASHING, PLEASE!** **BRING**: your paddle, water and possibly a chair. I will provide the nets and the balls. **COURTS**: We will play on free courts that are easily available, but we have no reservations. It's a wider area than you can go on foot for the whole area. So there are shuttles on multiple routes that will loop the city. The Grdn is the informal and casual step-child of The Cellar, A Wine Library winebar in Pasadena. Yes. That is correct. We have reserved space to have drinks or a bite before, during or after.
