**[Brown Mountain Dam Waterfall](https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/brown-mountain-dam-waterfall?u=i&sh=jaby7g).** Although it's roughly 8 miles, the hike is relatively easy with plenty of shade and little elevation gain. There will be some shallow stream crossings, shaded woods, sometimes a deer and of course, a lovely dam waterfall. 😀 * **TIMING:** Roughly 4.0 hours roundtrip for the hike including breaks. We generally head out 15- 20 minutes after the official start time. Dinner following is optional and not included in the official time. * **DISTANCE**: \~8 miles. Mostly flat * **ELEVATION**: 672 ft * **MEETING LOCATION**: Meet in parking lot. Look for the **BIG** group of people. * **PARKING**: Free Parking in the lot, no permit required. * **RESTROOMS**: No restrooms other than a primitive restroom 2 miles in along the route (BYO-TP!) (So at mile 2 and mile 6). * **DOGS:** Friendly dogs on leash ok. * **CELL RECEPTION:** There is limited cell reception. We meet at 8:20 and will leave no later than 8:30 This hike is part out-and-back and part loop. We will be taking the stairs as part of the return trip. It's a lot of steps. 509 if you are counting. This is a dog-friendly hike. Capri Drive is reached from Sunset Blvd. You go up a couple of blocks, circle all the way around the roundabout, and then go a few more blocks. DISTANCE (ROUND-TRIP) - About 5 miles WHAT TO BRING: Water Hiking shoes Good mood WHERE: We will meet in the street on the corner of Capri Drive and Casale Road. The address listed below is the number of the house at that corner. PARKING: This is a neighborhood so it will be street parking. You will likely have to park a couple of blocks away. READ THE SIGNS. There are parking restrictions on some of the streets. Come join us for a FAST-paced urban hike around the winding hills and beautiful streets of peaceful San Marino and Pasadena. Enjoy the scenery, the architecture, the wide streets, and the cool morning air. **NOTE**: Before signing up, be sure to review the safety guidelines and policies below, including the 'No Crashing'/'Guests Must Also Sign Up' policy and the 'Timeframe for Cancelling an RSVP/Signup' policy. **LEVEL**: Advanced/Fast speed (approximately 16-17 mins per mile), some long street inclines, otherwise moderate plus. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourages newcomers, but please note that moderate+ level of cardio fitness and fast walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 7.0 miles, some long street inclines. Elevation gain is 300ft. Approximately 2:00 hours. **SPEED**: Advanced/Fast speed of approximately 16-17 mins per mile. We will try to take a quick pause to re-group at the top of stairs and steep hills but our regulars like to keep up a good solid fast pace of about 16-17 minutes per mile. There will be no sweep, so bring your phone for navigation just in case you fall behind or want to leave early. **BRING**: Exercise outfit, workout shoes, and sufficient water. **MEETING POINT**: We will meet for introductions at 8:30 am on the northwest corner of Mission Street and El Molino Road in San Marino, CA 91108, and take off sharply at 8:35 am. **RESTROOMS**: There are none along the way, unless you count any random Port-a-Potties that we might come across along the route. **PARKING**: Free street parking around the intersection of Mission Street and El Molino Road. Parking at your own risk. **'NO CRASHING'/'GUESTS MUST ALSO SIGN UP':** All participants MUST sign up through the Meetup app and check in with the leader upon arrival. If someone is a bringing a guest, then that guest MUST also sign up as well through the Meetup app *before* the hike if space is available. There are NO exceptions. The waitlist, if any, generally clears in order. Meetup people, let’s invade this year’s Water Lantern Festival, which will take place in Simi Valley. This is a free event to attend if you just intend to watch the lanterns. A lot of people did that the last time I went to this event, but if you want to purchase a ticket I will provide the link below. I'm going to schedule this hike and if it's too soggy on Sunday we'll reschedule for next week!** **I will announce a cancellation here an hour or so before the hike if I feel it's not feasible.** Come join us for a loop walk around the reservoir by Watershed Park, we will start at the JPL parking lot (at our usual spot), then walk thru the park, across Devils Gate dam and then circle back up again, getting a good look at all the water now in the reservoir and ponds! **Park and meet at the JPL parking lot, WATCH THE VIDEO LINK below to see where we park!** A few notes: This is a group hike that ***stays together*** as we hike. Runyon Canyon Conditioning Workout hike

This is an Intermediate/advanced hike for physical conditioning to prep for harder mountain hikes. There is some steep downhill requiring hiking shoe tread. The uphill is gradual but constant. Pace is Intermediate/advanced. You can do one loop and exit or multiple. I usually do 3. Each takes about 50 minutes. I normally arrive at 8:55am. We will leave at 9 am sharp. MEETING PLACE : I will be right inside the green iron gate near the water fountain just off Mulholland Parking : parking lot near entrance gate. More parking on Mulholland but pay attention to signs. RAIN CANCELS This is a loop I do weekly. Each loop is approximately 2 miles/50 minutes. You can do as few or as many as you want. We'll go down the fire road to East ridge then come up West ridge fire road. I usually do 3 laps. You can exit at the Mulholland gate after any lap. Our Policy: Profile photo: Anyone interested in joining this event must have a profile photo showing his/her face. This is a requirement of L.A. Hiking. Without it, you will not be allowed to sign up for an event. Waiting list priority: People who hike with with L.A. Hiking regularly will be given priority when they are on the waiting list. Advanced hikes: Anyone interested in participating in advanced hikes (>3,000' elevation gain or distance > 10 miles or Difficulty Level > = 7) will be subject to prescreening before his/her name will be added to the list. Therefore, interested hiker must share with the event host his/her recent hiking background to establish proficiency before his/her name will be added to the list. Guests are not allowed on advanced hikes. Early departure: If a hiker needs to be separated from the group for any reason, he/she must inform the event host. Not knowing a hiker's where about may prompt the event host to report a hiker's missing to proper authority for further actions. No show: If you sign up for an event but did not show up, you will be removed from the next event you sign up. No minor: Meetup user agreement and our liability waiver can not be agreed to by a minor. Therefore, you and your guest must be over 18 to participate in our events. Come join us for weekly friendly games of lower intermediate to intermediate level pickleball! Our goal is to create a group of reliable regulars and newcomers that are roughly the same level and want to play just for social fun and exercise, but still challenge themselves to play better and better. (This is our first event to just to get things going, but once the heat subsides we'll set our permanent time and confirm the location) **LEVEL**: Lower intermediate to fully intermediate, approx. 2.8-3.5 level. We are friendly and welcoming, but this is **NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS OR EVEN ADVANCED BEGINNERS.** If you are advanced intermediate (above 3.5) feel free to join us, but take it easy on the smashing and be encouraging towards the rest of us.) **HOW IT WORKS:** We'll play on two courts and ideally we need 10-12 players for the best experience. **EVERYONE WILL GET TO PLAY MOST OF THE TIME** and against most other players. No cliques here! The winning pair on court A will move to court B and the losing pair will stay. The losing pair from court B will queue up for court A. Everyone will switch partners each time. Most people will keep on moving in-between the courts depending on the level of their partner and one should not care too much about the court for a friendly experience. **COMMITMENT:** Because we need exactly 10-12 people it is important that people sign up only if they are fairly certain that they will attend and drop out as early as possible, if necessary. We need eight people to start and finish on both courts, so please be on time and plan to stay for full 2h. If some people want to play another 1/2-1h I will stay to provide the nets. No guests allowed, unless I know them and I add them as my guests. **WAITLIST** (if needed) Regulars with good attendance records will get some priority. **NO CRASHING, PLEASE!** **BRING**: your paddle, water and possibly a chair. I will provide the nets and the balls. **COURTS**: We will play on free courts that are easily available, but we have no reservations. (in the unlikely event that the courts are not available we will drive 3min to another S.Pas. location) There is not much fencing, so we play with many balls and let them run off till the end of the game. **PARKING**: Easy, free street parking. Enter from Bank St. **RESTROOMS**: usually there is a Port-a-Potty on location. **LIABILITY**: The organizer is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. (read below) This is the biggest, baddest Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival in Los Angeles, if not all of California. It's a humorous way of dealing with the reality of death, which is after all a part of life. If all that sounds a little grim, I have been to this event in the past and found it to be one of the biggest, liveliest parties I have ever seen! There will be lots of dancing: Aztec dancing, folkloric dancing, and more. Families set up ofrendas (altars) to welcome back the dead; this year there will be over 100 of them and the best decorated win prizes. You can get your face painted (for a fee) like a calaca (skull), or come with your face already painted if you wish. Come in your best Dia de los Muertos costume; the best costume can win $1500! There are art exhibits and photo exhibits and stunning light exhibits. AND There will be five stages featuring primo entertainment until close to midnight. Along with food and beverage vendors and lounges in which to enjoy their wares.
