Come along on Saturday 15th August to visit two villages and a town in the Cotswolds! **About the day** The Cotswolds are a range of rolling hills in south central England about 25 miles wide and 90 miles long. The Cotswolds were declared an area of outstanding natural beauty in 1966. We will be visiting two villages and a town, all very pretty with houses made of local stone, old churches with streams and all on the edge of the surrounding countryside. **Tetbury** As one of the best-preserved and most stylish market towns in the southern Cotswolds. It started as the site of an ancient hill fort. In the middle ages, it prospered as a wool town, it is now the antiques capital of the Cotswolds with 25 specialist shops. The high street also has plenty of shops selling local produce. Just outside the town is Highgrove House, the home to King Charles III. **Castle Combe** Is a quintessentially English village which is often voted the 'prettiest village in England'. It is quite a small village, with its cluster of Cotswold Stone cottages and lack of modern buildings – no new houses have been built in the centre of the village since about 1600. The view by the river bridge is a famous picture postcard scene. It has appeared in may T.V shows and films, including the 1967 film 'Doctor Dolittle' and the 2011 film 'War Horse'. **Lacock** Is a spectacularly preserved medieval village, almost entirely owned by the National Trust. There are no overhead wires or modern store fronts, making it feel like you've stepped back in time and making it an instant movie set. It has two 600 year old pubs and a fantastic abbey, which was used in the Harry Potter films. Come along on Saturday 1st August for a coach trip along the East Sussex coast! **About the trip** East Sussex sits on the south coast and is part of the historic county of Sussex. It has its roots in the ancient kingdom of the South Saxons, who established themselves there in the 5th century AD, after the departure of the Romans. It is known for its green hills, weald-land and pretty seaside towns with their fishing heritage. The ones we will be visiting are: **Bexhill-on-Sea** Bexhill-on-Sea has modern vintage shops, quirky places for art and music, and independent cafés and restaurants. During the Norman Conquest of 1066, it appears that Bexhill was largely destroyed. In 1804, defensive Martello towers were built along the south coast, some near Bexhill, in order to repel any French invasion and they still exist today. The most notable landmark is the [De La Warr Pavilion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_La_Warr_Pavilion). Built in 1934, the pavilion is Grade I listed, located on the seafront. The building was the result of an architectural competition. **Pevensey Bay** Pevensey Bay is an old fishing village founded in the 1600's. The bay is famed as the 1066 landing site of William the Conqueror and the Norman army. It has a quiet shingle beach and a mix of Edwardian town houses and beachfront homes. In the early 1900's the village became the holiday resort it is today. **Eastbourne** Eastbourne is a very Victorian seaside resort with a maintained promenade and a restored pier from 1870. It also has a 5-mile stretch of award-winning beaches. It has an art gallery called; Towner Art Gallery, which includes modern British works and the Redoubt Fortress, built during the Napoleonic Wars, which has has a military museum. Week day fun: The Crab & Winkle Way: Visit Canterbury, hike to Whitstable

Yaaaaayyyy it is time to hit the road again for a beautiful hike and the visit of this absolutely beautiful city in good company! This is a week day hike for those who are free and enjoy walking with a loss less people around. We will start our trip in Canterbury, the old, the very old city and will have a stroll around before beginning the hike all the way to the sea via the famous Crab and Winkle way. Fun enough, we will begin our trip in what is the end of the Pilgrim Way, a city where millions of people have ended their Pilgrimage over the centuries and where Christianity started in Britain... In 597 AD, St. Augustine led a mission from Rome to Christianize Kent. He converted King Æthelberht of Kent, whose queen was already a Christian. St. Augustine became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in 601 AD. This trip will take us through some beautiful landscapes, including a beautiful forest in its autumnal colours, an old town and the seaside. Canterbury is a popular tourist destination: consistently one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom. The city has been occupied since Paleolithic times and served as the capital of the Celtic Cantiaci and Jute Kingdom of Kent. Many historical structures fill the area, including a city wall founded in Roman times and rebuilt in the 14th century, the ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and a Norman castle, and the oldest extant school in the world, the King's School. It was home to Saint Thomas and became the destination of the pilgrimage that started from Winchester and ended in Canterbury, know as the Pilgrim way and that his followers had followed for centuries. Known for its cathedral and beautifully preserved old buildings, we will kick off our trip with a wander in these pretty streets before we hike to the sea! And if they are open, I know a delightful crepes place where we can take away a treat to get some energy before we hit the road! Imagine this tasty crepe with hot chocolate and some fruits and whip cream if you want to go full on fatty caressing your taste buds and the warmth of it leaking down your throat... :) After we have taken some lovely picture, we will follow the famous Crab and Winkle way, an ancient railway line that once linked the two beautiful places, one of the first passenger lines in the country! And today, another famous hike. We will walk through beautiful forests and countryside. There will be a not so pretty bit by the road for about 10 minutes when we leave Canterbury but after that, beauty will pave the way :) As we arrived to the end of our trip, you will begin to scent the smell of the sea as it awaits us for the sunset, the apotheosis of our trip if weather allows... Whitstable is a fishing village and one of the most popular seaside towns in Kent, it was famous for its oysters from Roman times all the way to the middle of the 20th century and its traditional architecture will delight us and as usual, for those who wish, we will probably grab a pint and a good old fish and chips, a veggie meal or whatever you fancy eating or drinking.
