Interactive Performance/Workshop with Ali Katmiri

Interactive Performance/Workshop with Ali Katmiri

The workshop invites visitors to take up the practice for themselves. Working in silence with colour and canvas, each person becomes both the artist and the audience of their own work. Nothing needs to be got right and no experience is needed. The point is to find out what happens when feeling passes straight into colour, without stopping to explain itself. Your creation will then be displayed as part of the artists solo show at the London Art Bar!

We are so excited to announce our first solo show at the LAB will be by the amazing **Ali Katmiri!** And we would love for you to join us for the private view on **Saturday 29th August from 6pm!** Ali Katmiri paints and photographs to reach the seeing and the feeling that come before language. The work comes from a daily practice he built for himself. In it he is both the artist and the audience. In one part he works as a performer-painter, in the other as a performer-photographer. Institutions choreograph the eye. They teach people where to look and what is worth looking at. In the photographs Katmiri uses abstraction to strip those distractions away and reach the layer of the world a child sees. That same direction of attention disciplines emotion. In the paintings he uses colour and canvas to put feeling outside the body directly, with no words and no explanation. He is not making meaning. He is opening a channel where emotion passes straight into colour and shape. Both halves of the practice ask the same question from two sides. How we look, and how we feel about what we are shown. **Tilt Your Head and A Subtle Turn / Colors Can See** is Ali Katmiris first solo exhibition. It brings together paintings and photographs from a daily practice he built for himself, one in which he is both the artist and the audience. Institutions choreograph the eye, teaching people where to look and what is worth looking at, and that same direction of attention disciplines what they feel. The photographs use abstraction to strip those distractions away. The paintings use colour and canvas to put emotion outside the body directly, with no words and no explanation. Both reach for the seeing and the feeling that come before language. The exhibition includes a workshop in which visitors take up the practice for themselves.

Dynamic model Caroline returns! Link to Caroline's Instagram [@caroline_spang](https://www.instagram.com/caroline_spang/) Unfortunately, due to increasing costs, I have had to raise the price per session to £14.00. I might add this is the first increase since 2020. The session is held in the TRA Community Hall, Ground Floor, Simla House, Weston Street, SE1 3RL. All abilities are welcome to draw and meet likeminded people. Two hours of active dynamic poses from 2 to 25 minutes. £14.00 for the session. The group is run on a drop-in basis. Pay on the night. Cash or card. Artists are advised to bring their own materials although a small amount will be available for emergency use. I think that is everything but message me if you have any queries. Kind regards, Cliff
