Labour Day Loop: Green Sq & Airport

**Start and Finish place:** Stanmore Reserve, to the east of Stanmore Library **Start Time:** 8.15am for an 8.30am departure **Finish Time:** around 12.30pm. **Cycling fitness level:** Very Easy/**EASY**/Medium/Hard/Very Hard **Distance [Elevation]/ Speed:** 25km [+175m] / Moving speed averaging 12-15kph **What You Need:** Bicycle in good working order, helmet & bike lock, water & sunscreen, spare tube, Opal Card in case you need to bail out early. Chill out on Labour Day with an easy and diverse ride that will explore a couple of very new pieces of the developing Sydney cycling network. We'll experience the brand new Ngamuru Avenue connection from Alexandria to Green Square where we'll check out some new features of this rapidly changing development. Then onto Rosebery where we'll ride Sydney's first "Quietway". We will return via the spectacular airport cycle link, the Cooks River and the GreenWay. There will of course be a coffee stop in between. The ride will be gently paced and is designed to suit less experienced riders or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration by bike. The route will be mostly on separated cycleways / shared paths, or use quiet back streets. The ride aims to -show riders some safe and pleasant ways of getting around in the inner suburbs of Sydney. -provide riders with a friendly and welcoming environment. Balmain bike bus every Wed.

Join the Balmain Bike Bus, run and led by "Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle" for a pleasant ride to Union Square Pyrmont via White Bay power station and the ANZAC bridge. Two joining points: Option 1 8am, meet at Loyalty Square, outside Woolies Balmain departing at 8.10 am – and led through Balmain to White Bay Power Station. Option 2 Meet at the Robert Street gate, White Bay Power Station at 8.10 for 8.20 departure. The ride will continue over the Anzac Bridge to Union Square on Harris St, Pyrmont. Some may then choose to ride on to other locations, others may have a coffee nearby or simply head home. The Balmain Bike Bus happens every Wednesday from Loyalty Square. Nakasendo Way by E Bike Tokyo to Kyoto about 500 km of cycle paths, back roads and forest paths, medium grade cycling made easier by modern E Bikes Cycling about 50km per day crossing two mountain passes, amazing scenery and fabulous ancient well preserved villages, think Megome and Tsumago plus Kiso Valley for those amazing thatched roof houses. Mountain views, rolling hills and the lakes of Suwa and Biwa the latter Japan's largest lake and we get to cycle around 2/3 of it on fairly flat cycle paths! **Bicycle NSW Spring Cycle - Sunday October 11, 2026** Come along in Bike Leichhardt jerseys (or not) to ride 50 klms over the Harbour bridge along a dedicated route to Sydney Olympic Park. There is also a 10 klm route too. For full details - go to their website to find out more and register for the ride. Its a great opportunity to enjoy a route open only once per year and to show the public as well as local, state and federal govts that cycling is a mass participation activity (and thus deserving a better share of roads and transport funding). Easiest way to get there is get the Metro to Victoria Cross and exit the station at the northern end then walk up the hill to St Leonards park near North Sydney Oval. Pastry & Pedals: Kings Cross Mkt Loop

Total: 40km We'll roll out from Tempe and navigate through Mascot to link up with the start of the Bourke Street Cycleway. From there, it's a seamless, mostly separated run all the way north through Waterloo, Redfern, and Surry Hills, dropping right down into Woolloomooloo. Once at the bay, we’ll tackle the brief but punchy climb up into Potts Point, arriving right at Fitzroy Gardens. We are parking the bikes by the El Alamein Fountain to explore the vibrant Kings Cross Saturday Market - famous for exceptional artisan baked treats, fresh pastries, and boutique sweet treats. Grab a coffee, score a top-tier pastry, and relax by the fountain for breakfast. Heading home, we’ll cruise through the heart of Kings Cross and cut up through the elegant but hilly backstreets of Paddington We’ll cross over into Moore Park to pick up the green infrastructure tracks, eventually filtering back onto the Bourke Street Cycleway for a familiar, clear run all the way south to the cars at Holbeach Avenue. Essential Checklist Helmet: Mandatory (standard Australian compliance). Spares: Bring a bike puncture repair kit, spare tube that fits your valves, and a mini-pump/CO2. Hydration & Weather: A full water bottle. While it's August, morning coastal breezes can be brisk, so a windproof layer is recommended. Payment: Card/cash for your market goodies. Moore Park to Ramsgate RTN - 36k

An easy and relatively flat morning ride south through Waterloo, Alexandria, Mascot, around Sydney Airport and along the new cycle path through the Barton and Scarborough Park wetlands to Ramsgate where we stop for coffee/pastries. Much of the ride is on cycleways, otherwise along back streets, except for the first short stretch along Dacey Ave and South Dowling St. We meet at the Dacey Avenue Bus Shelter, Kensington (in front of the E S Marks Athletic Field) and leave from there promptly at 7:30 am. Alternatively - meet us at 7:45 am in front of The Grounds on the corner of Bourke Rd and Huntley St Alexandria. Medium pace (20kph av.) ETA return 10:30 am

City Arvo Ride

Distance: Approx. 40–45km ​Grade: Medium (Night riding / Urban navigation / Steady pace) ​Comms: All updates will be posted here on MeetUp in the Comments section. Please update your RSVP early if your plans change so someone else can grab your spot. ​Ready to welcome the warmer weather with a classic urban loop? This ride is all about shaking off the last of the winter blues and soaking in the absolute best views Sydney has to offer as the day fades into dusk and night. ​We’ll depart Tempe right as the late afternoon light softens, snaking our way through Mascot, Alexandria, and Erskineville to hit the Wilson St Cycleway. From there, we roll into Pyrmont to catch the golden hour and hug the sparkling harbor front, pulling into Darling Square for a quick pit stop. ​The real magic happens on the second half of the loop. We’ll glide past Circular Quay to watch the city lights flicker to life over the water, head down the Pitt St Cycleway, and navigate south through Central, Redfern, and Waterloo. We’ll link up with the Bourke St Cycleway, heading straight toward a well-earned, delicious Malaysian dinner - we'll make the final call on the day whether we pull into Mascot or Rosebery. After dinner, it's just a final short spin back to the Holbeach Ave carpark. ​Sunday is deliberately chosen because the city traffic is much quieter, making for a smooth, pleasant cruise. ​Crucial Details & House Rules ​Lights: Serious, high-quality front and rear night lights are mandatory. Medium: Stairs, rocks, coastal beaches/sand, ups, downs, get out points limited, up to 17kms
Medium-Hard: uneven surfaces, need to take extreme care and be hike fit. Few get out points. Tracks, uneven surfaces, steep inclinations and limited resources. 🌸👯‍♀️🌸 WALKING GUIDELINES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 🌸✍️🌸 Carry sufficient food and water (2 litres) for the expected conditions of the walk.
