Urban Hike: Bernal Heights Park

Join us for a relaxed morning of good conversation, fresh pastries, and a scenic hike up Bernal Heights Park! We'll start by meeting at **Arizmendi Bakery** to grab coffee and pastries before heading out together for a walk to the top of Bernal Heights Park. The hike is short but rewarding, with panoramic views of San Francisco and the Bay Area. **Notes:** * Please arrive on time so we can leave together after meeting at the bakery. We'll wait until **9:45am** for any late arrivals before heading out. * We'll keep a relaxed pace and make sure no one gets left behind. * Doggos welcome. In the Claremont Canyon Regional Perserve, part of the Eastbay regional park. Behind the historic Claremont Hotel is a 208-acre preserve with picturesque hiking trails. The Stonewall-Panoramic Trail is the primary trail, with the best views in the Berkeley Hills that include Downtown Berkeley, Downtown Oakland, and the San Francisco Bay. A steep climb uphill, but amazing views of the Golden Gate, Bay Bridge, Berkeley and Oakland and a lovely 360 views at the top. Do make sure you take in the full panoramic view, not just the golden gate. We will stop at the top for sneak/lunch break and enjoy the view and the company. **Level:** Intermediate Plus (Very Steep in places) **Total Distance:** 7.2 miles partial loop **Hiking Time:** 3 Plus hours **Elevation:** 1350 feet (Very Steep in places) **Parking:** Free street Parking **Information:** No Toilet or water at trailhead, Dogs should remain leashed in developed areas. We head uphill on Stonewall Panoramic trail, past at the second bench **(take Group Photo)** then continue uphill Stonewall Panoramic trail, Right at the Panoramic Way Fire-road, then continue uphill on East-West Trail, continue center trail uphill, the 4th Hill, then continue on up the longest 5th hill, continue straight second Right, then quick left up steep short 6th hill (Chaparral Peak) no view, left then straight on convict trail, 7th hill lookout with logs **(break),** then continue on convict trail downhill, Left on the Upper Jordon Fire Trail until we reach the junction with a fence, go through the fence. Sunday Kickball @ Bushrod Park!

BASS presents our favorite event, kickball! We will be at our normal spot in the East Bay at Bushrod Park in Oakland! Bring your soccer cleats (for better grip on the field), sunscreen, and athletic wear and water for a fun time out! For those who haven't played kickball before, the rules will be explained and demonstrated before we start. Depending on the attendance, we'll either have 2 teams facing off or a rotation of 3 teams all together. Then after we may hit the local pizza/bar scene if everyone still wants to hang out. We have a HARD START at 1pm, so please be sure to show up on time for warmups! (We also nearly lost the field previously because not enough people were there on time) See you there soon! 🔴 Note: Please, please, please don’t no show. 🙏 It makes these events really difficult to plan. If you no show once, you will be given lower priority for future events. The second time, you will be removed from the event list for any attendee limited event we host.

Quad 4 Hike from Pantoll / Bolinas Ridge

Join Docent Debra Hoitomt for this guided hike. This hike will have some very nice ocean views, weather permitting. It is considered a "moderate" hike. There is sustained climbing on Bolinas Ridge and Cataract. Trails: Matt Davis, Bolinas Ridge Trail, Cataract Creek, Old Mine 6 miles / 1000 feet elevation gain Sign up is required CANCELLATIONS: Rain, red flag days, winds above 30 mph, and unforeseen circumstances will cancel. Pantoll parking requires an $8 fee. WATER: Bring at least two bottles of water. Most hikes do not pass by public drinking water sources. FOOD: There will not be a formal lunch stop. Bring your own snacks. PROTECTION: Ticks, mosquitoes, horse flies and yellow jackets are present, but not abundant. Sunscreen or sun coverup recommended. STURDY BOOTS: Trails are uneven, rocky and can be very steep in places. Sandals, sneakers and running shoes are not recommended. HIKE DOCENTS have been trained under the California State Parks Volunteers In the Park Program (VIPP). This hike is part of the "Quad 4 hikes" - four epic hikes that start/end at the Pantoll Campground. Together they are 21 miles with 4,300 feet of elevation. Individually they are 4.5 – 6.5 miles long with 500 – 1,500 of elevation. Upon completing all 4 hikes, you will receive a badge of Honor.
