Weekend afternoon open jam (Free) + social | 2nd Aug 3pm, Vortex downstairs

Sun, Aug 2, 2:00 PM
From Practice Jazz Jams (Novice)
4.8

Afternoon jam and performances, free and open to a public audience and participants. Anyone at any skill level can join in to play (or sing) - mostly jazz standards. There is no fixed repertoire, and what is played depends on what everyone calls - please put your name and instrument (or vocals) down on the sign up sheet, which will usually be on the downstairs bar. Earlier arrivals will usually be asked to play first, so you may wish to plan to come early. The house band will also play a couple of songs throughout the afternoon, including from the [future standards](https://www.vortexjazz.co.uk/event/future-standards-3-2024-04-14-2024-05-12-2024-06-09-2024-08-03/2024-09-22/) repertoire - which everyone is also encouraged to call. Contact me for sheet music. There will also be a possible break for a 30 minute novice+, improver or intermediate set. Many people also come to the open jam, who are looking to join a novice+ or intermediate rehearsal for the first time, so I can get a sense of your playing first. We'll likely go somewhere for food afterwards. See you then Xie

Let's go to Pool House!

Let's go to Pool House!

Fri, Jul 31, 6:15 PM
From Fun Activities to Do in London on a Weekend
4.7

For the first time we will be Heading to Pool House which is like a Flight Club meets Pool event. We have two tables booked for 8 people per table for this unique experience! You don't have to be an expert at Pool or played before as the games are available for all levels **What is Pool House?** **More than just Pool..** Choose from a range of interactive games brought to life by dynamic projections on the table. Our technology tracks every shot, keeps score automatically and learns your ability over time, creating fairer, more competitive games for everyone at the table. Whether you're chasing the leaderboard or just playing for fun, every game feels a little different. This is pool culture, reimagined for a new era. You already know the sport, but you've never played it like this. Same cues, same balls, same satisfying clack. But the table's alive with interactive games projected directly onto each table, transforming the baize into a dynamic playing surface. Hidden AI tracks every shot and adjusts to your ability, so whether it's your first game or your hundredth, the winning shot is always within reach. **The Games** Designed to be played in teams, every game mode brings its own challenge. PotShots rewards bold play, with bonus targets, obstacles and big-scoring opportunities. CliffEdge is all about precision and control. Killer is a battle for survival where every shot counts, while Void rewards strategy, forcing players to think ahead and outplay their opponents. Behind it all: automatic scoring, live leaderboards and dynamic handicaps help balance the competition, so players of all abilities can compete together and stay in the game. And there's more to come. A brand-new game mode is on the way, bringing even more pressure, competition and heart-racing moments to the table. Watch this space. **How it Works** Getting started is easy. Pick your game, choose your team, and let the table do the rest. ### Create your profile Use the kiosk screens to check in, take your player selfie and let the table learn your skill from the first shot. ### Play your way Pick your mode and let the games begin! The table handles the scoring, so you can focus on that winning shot. ### Climb the ranks Play more to increase your Poolhouse rating, track your progress and see who you need to beat next. Litter Pick - Lewisham/Deptford (SE London)

Litter Pick - Lewisham/Deptford (SE London)

Sat, Aug 1, 10:00 AM
From Eco Around Community
5.0

Join the Eco Around Community for a litter-pick walk from Lewisham DLR station to Deptford Bridge station along the Waterlink Way, facilitated by Biljana. Waterlink Way connects several parks and green spaces in Lewisham borough, following the Pool and Raversbourne rivers. It stretches 8 miles from South Northwood Country Park to the Cutty Sark ship in Greenwich. Considered one of South London’s hidden gems, it not only provides an enjoyable route to walkers and cyclists, but it also improves habitats for aquatic wildlife. While maintained by Lewisham Council, contributing to the Waterlink Way’s extra clear-up would be much appreciated. **When:** Saturday, 1 August, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm **Where:** We’ll start from Lewisham DLR station and follow the Ravensbourne River along the Waterlink Way, cutting through Brookmill Park, and finishing at Deptford Bridge DLR station. Use the What3Words navigation below to see the exact meeting points. Start: what3words: [///survey.ruler.labs](https://w3w.co/survey.ruler.labs) Finish: what3words: [///honey.page.lands](https://w3w.co/honey.page.lands) We are planning to have some optional drinks/food afterwards. **How to dress and what to bring:** Appropriate footwear, no open-toed shoes and we recommend some waterproofs (just in case). We have some gloves, bin bags and litter pickers but feel free to bring your own and a refillable water bottle in case you get thirsty. Hand Sanitiser is also useful. **Updates:** Unless there is a heavy rain forecast, we will stick to our plans. Please check the event for updates. **Photo Consent:** We plan to take general pictures and a group picture to document the activity and help us promote future online events. If you wish not to be in the pictures, let us know.
