🌌 NSW Winter Escape Road Trip – Snow, Stars & Scenic Views (Solo-Friendly) Looking to escape the city for a few days and experience some of the best winter scenery NSW has to offer? I’m organising a relaxed road trip from 29 July to 2 August 2026, starting from Toongabbie, with a focus on nature, good company and taking things at a slower pace. Itinerary Highlights * 🌄 Scenic lookouts in Capertee Valley * 🌌 Stargazing in some of NSW’s darkest accessible skies * 💧 Visit Gibraltar Falls * 🦘 Explore Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve * 🏔️ Mountain views around Cooma and Lake Jindabyne * ❄️ Day trip to Thredbo to enjoy the snow and alpine village * ☕ Great cafés, local food and plenty of photo opportunities Trip Style This isn’t a rushed sightseeing tour. The idea is to enjoy the drive, stop at beautiful viewpoints, watch the sunset, spend time under the stars and simply unwind. Easy: Mainly flat, suburban, loads of get out points, up to 14kms.
Easy-Medium: some stairs, a few uneven surfaces, up to 15kms.
Medium: Stairs, rocks, coastal beaches/sand, ups, downs, get out points limited, up to 17kms
Medium-Hard: uneven surfaces, need to take extreme care and be hike fit. Few get out points. Tracks, uneven surfaces, steep inclinations and limited resources. 🌸👯‍♀️🌸 WALKING GUIDELINES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 🌸✍️🌸 Carry sufficient food and water (2 litres) for the expected conditions of the walk. Winter wandering in Royal NP! Waterfall to Uloola Falls, Karloo, Olympic pools!

This walk takes us from Waterfall to Uloola falls, Karloo pool and then to Olympic pool. **We will start at Waterfall Train Station (exit train station and turn left until you get to the drop-off area) at 9.15am. **From here we will follow the Uloola Fire Trail for about 5kms to Uloola Falls, where we stop for a snack and I will show you a secret swimming hole with little waterfalls. We will then follow the Karloo Track for 3 kms to Karloo Pools ,where we will have lunch.Then we will follow Kangaroo Creek to Olympic pool. We will head to Heathcote Train Station via the Bottle Forest track. We will arrive at Heathcote train station by 3.30 pm. **DISTANCE: About 14 km.** GRADE: Medium, there are a few hills to climb. Berowra Creek - Source to Hawkbury - Redux

Redux - Your host took a bad step and had to drop out. So we are starting again This idea is a series of hikes to explore Berowra Creek - its history and and its current vistas. This would also include side visits to stay in touch with the creek as we walk it's length. This is mostly bush trails, but initially some (short) urban walking. Wear: Trail runners, hiking shoes as this can be muddy/slippery, even if rain was several days ago. Bring: 2-3 liters of water - stay hydrated Public transport options: Note: The metro may be out again. Sydney Social Climbers is a group of social climbing enthusiasts who also enjoy a beer and a chat. We meet every Thursday 6:15PM, at Nomad Annandale climbing gym. **Schedule** 6:15PM - 6:30PM - Meet and Greet 6:30PM -8:15PM - Climbing 8:15PM-8:20PM - Regroup and leave for Pub 8:20PM Onwards - Dinner & Drinks at The Annandale Hotel **What is Bouldering?** Bouldering is rock climbing without ropes or harnesses. The challenge is to climb short but tricky routes using balance, technique, and strength. It's a high-intensity exercise that strengthens many of the major muscles of the body, and in particular your core, back, shoulders, arms, hands, and grip. It can also help improve your sport climbing technique. Bouldering routes are set for beginners and up to advanced climbers at the gym. Great North Walk Thornleigh to Chatswood 18km medium

Fabulous walk along the Great North Walk trail from Thornleigh Station to Chatswood Sation about 18km and a few small ups/downs but lovely bush trails ## Lane Cove National Park & The Great North Walk Sydney is incredibly fortunate to harbor a significant number of national parks right within its metropolitan boundaries. Among the most central is **Lane Cove National Park**, which begins less than 10 kilometers from the CBD as the crow flies. While surrounding suburban development has introduced some weed encroachment along the creeklines, the park beautifully preserves a wealth of original, pristine bushland across its ridges and valleys. For walkers looking to explore this pocket of wilderness, a prime section of the iconic **Great North Walk**—the massive track linking Sydney to Newcastle—cuts directly through the heart of the valley. This specific route follows the peaceful, non-tidal waters of the Lane Cove River, tracing the valley from the weir at Fullers Bridge all the way up to the northern watershed near Thornleigh. Bobbo Banana

The bobo banana - is an out and back ride from Mount Colah Station through the iconic Kuringai National Park, Bobbin Head. It is a technical ride involving long downhill sections and sharp corners. You need to be on your game to ride it, ao please if you are just gaining confidence on a bike this one is not for you. There are coffee choices, the Bobbin Head cafe at the bottom of the hill with gorgeous views across Cowan Creek, or one at the village centre of Turramurra. This ride has 2 long climbs of about 3km at average 5% - bring your climbing legs. The technical nature of the ride means your bike needs to have good all working parts, tyres, brakes, and working phone. there are few bail points once into the park. Pace will be controlled - no olympic downhill speeds, the idea is to enjoy the scenery nature and arrive at Mt Colah station on the return all in one piece. We ride only as fast as the slowest rider.. Please look at the map and decide if this ride is for you. It is one of my favourites, but a challenge. There is water at the Kalkari visitor centre and at the village. The road is sometimes busy on the weekend, people often tow their boats to the AppleTree bay boat ramp early in the morning. You can usually hear traffic well before they are close by because the only other sound in the park is nature. Transport to Mt Colah - Platfom 16 from Central the T1 line 07:15 gets to Mt Colah at about 8:15. meeting on the non highway side, there is a car turning circle which is visible from the Station pedestrian bridge. Return ( the banana shaped ride ) is back to town from Mt Colah trains run every half an hour.

Whales,whales, whales! Cronulla to Kurnell return!

This 16 km walk begins and ends at Cronulla railway station. Please arrive at 9.10 am sharp. We will be catching the 9.20 am bus ( 987) to Kurnell. Upon arriving at Kurnell, we will look at the beautiful sculptures ( whale bones, canoes and mother and baby whales). We will then head over to the Yena trail and walk to the Kurnell rock platform and whale watching area. From here we follow the headland around and walk past Cape Bailey light house and on to Boat Harbour. There are little shacks here that were built in the 1900’s. We will walk up the beach to Wanda and on to Cronulla mall, where we can purchase a well deserved coffee or treat! We will arrive back at Cronulla railway by 3.30 pm. 11kms Coogee to Malabar Headland Hike!!! Microbrew & Food Truck Finish!

**Beach to Beach to National Park Headland to Microwbrew & Food Truck?!?! Absolutely. Of course the Marrickville & Freshwater microwbrews are well known, but there are also a few down in Botany that we've not explored together. Let’s check it out for a cracker of a Sunday session. **THE HIKE. 11kms.** **Coogee Beach…** we all know it. It’s a beauty. We'll meet just by Coogee Pavilion at that huge chair in the grass - it's actually a sculpture called "The Impressionists' Seat"... hiking along beautiful Coogee Beach. South Coogee turns a bit more tranquil with gorgeous cliff views and crazy-beautiful homes. We’ll twist and turn to **Maroubra Rocks and Beach**… looooovely spots. The rockpool at Maroubra is one of the prettiest on the coast. To **Malabar Headland** we goooooooooo! I still haven't done it, and it looks a treat (it's only open the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month). Around to **Malabar Beach** then a 1km neighbourhood walk to the bus, and Beer Fontaine is close (if you have to leave after the hike, that’s understandable – it’s Sunday after all). **Beer Fontaine** is a lovely little spot, and they always have a food truck out front.
