Dear members, For those who live in the St George area or who are willing to travel down, we are opening another language exchange event on Wednesday at the beautiful Rocksia Hotel, https://rocksiahotel.com.au/ (3 min walking from the Banksia station), which is a laid-back place with modern décor and contemporary furnishings throughout. Boasting two separate kitchens – the bistro and Lola’s Kitchen, they have happy hour between 4 pm and 6 pm every weekday. So arrive a little early to get a happy hour drink to start the night. If you feel like practicing Spanish or English, or just want to broaden your personal network over a few drinks, this would be a perfect place to do so, meet new friends, and hang out in a relaxed and casual environment. North Harbour Spendour! St Leonards to Milson’s Point finishing at Taronga!

**This is a lovely walk that covers the north coastline of Sydney Harbour to the west and east of Milson’s Point.** **I've re-posted this walk after it had to be cancelled a few weeks ago because public transport wasn't running.** **We start at St Leonards Train Station at 9.45am.** **From here we follow Berry Creek and make our way to Berry Island Reserve and Oyster Cove Reserve reaching the Coal Loader Wharf. There is a toilet here and a water refill station.** **We then go to Berry Bay Lookout (where the BP Fuel Terminal used to be) and then to Waverton Park and Sawmillers Reserve where the remains of a rusty shipwreck lie in the sand.** **We continue through to Lavender Bay and the beautiful Blues Point Reserve.** **From here we head to Milson’s Point via Wendy’s Garden.** **We stop for lunch at Milson’s Point.** **Then we make our way through Kirribilli (and say high to the PM if he is about), to Milson Park, Kesterton Park, Anderson Park and Cremorne Reserve. There is a toilet here and a refill station.** **Then off to Reid park and Sirius Point Reserve before making our way to Taronga Zoo Ferry Terminal, from which we will catch a lovely ferry ride to Circular Quay.** **We will aim to finish at Circular Quay by 3.30pm, from which we can catch a train to return home.** **\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*** **DISTANCE: About 16 kms.** **GRADE: Moderate, due to distance. Hello, We have our second trivia night on Thursday 27th August at the Chatswood RSL Club. The night kicks off at 7.30pm, but best to arrive around 7.15pm to get yourself signed in, buy some dinner and meet the group. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who has joined. The space is small and I'll be there to greet you. This trivia night is only on a weekly basis being 27 August and 3,10, 17 September. Newcastle - Ocean/Harbour/Whales - 15KM/14KM Medium** **WEEKEND GETAWAY IN THE AMAZING PORT CITY OF NEWCASTLE!** **SATURDAY:** From **Newcastle Beach** we head up to **King Edward Park** for a grand view of this wonderful city. We track south, along some amazing beachfronts and take a bathroom break at the heritage **Mereweather Ocean Baths**. More stunning ocean fronts lead to **Glenrock Lagoon** and our lunch break. **NO FOOD HERE: BRING YOUR LUNCH.** After lunch we go bush through to **Dudley Beach** and **Awabakal Nature Reserve** which ends at **Redhead Beach,** where we find **Club Redhea**d for a refreshment while we wait for our bus back to Newcastle CBD. **Distance:** 15 km **SUNDAY:** From **Newcastle Beach** we go historic **Fort Scratchley**, Newcastle Breakwater and **Nobby's Lighthouse.** Its then a short ferry ride ($2.50, Opal Card) across to **Stockton** where we explore the Hunter River and **stop for lunch at the local Club**. Enjoy pretty Lake Macquarie (2 hours from Sydney) while zipping along on our catamarans and getting a good introduction to sailing. More exciting than being on a yacht ! We have 18-foot, 16-foot and 14-foot catamarans. No experience is required. Come for either the weekend or a day (we recommend coming for the weekend). If so, are you prepared to give others lifts ? * If you don't have your own transport, what suburb do you live in ? * Contact phone number. * Do you have a tent ? We can hire but you must have your own sleeping bag. * Can you swim (we wear lifejackets but cannot take non-swimmers) * Are you reasonably agile ? We don’t need super athletes, but you are sitting on a flat deck (not a seat) and you need to be able to move 3 metres to the other side of the boat at reasonable speed. A simple test is whether you can lie flat on a carpet and stand up within 4 seconds without using furniture. * We cannot take people weighing more than 95 kg (even if agile). COST: Sailing fee $70 (weekend); $40 (day), camping $26, lift $15, tent hire $10. You need your own sleeping bag. This is a group event and requires people to be on time to assist in rigging boats. If coming Saturday, arrive by 10:00 am ready for the outdoors. If coming for the day only be prepared to stay until 6pm. For Sunday, be prepared to arrive by 9am and stay until 5pm. Camping is at a caravan park with facilities. We are a long-established sailing group run by the YHA. We hold sailing weekends every 4 weeks. NO SAILING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Catamaran sailing is a fun and exciting way to experience the water, as the boats zip along in the wind. The boats are easy to sail and offer a good opportunity for anyone who wants to learn or experience sailing by getting some practice on either handling the jib, trapezing (hanging out the side of the boat on a harness) or skippering. We are not a "racing" group, we just like to be on the water and away from Sydney for a weekend, taking it easy.

Whale Watching: Southern Migration: Watsons Bay to Maroubra!!! 18km Medium

**Whale Watching Day!!!Southern Migration: Watson’s Bay to Maroubra 18 km (Medium)** We ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay and commence our walk out of **South Head**, and along the Federation walk, navigating Diamond Bay and Dover Heights before dropping down to **North Bondi.** Leaving Bondi Beach behind, we strike out for Tamarrama and **Bronte**, where we stop for a nice lunch break of 45 minutes. Following lunch we head for Maroubra via **Clovelly and Coogee** Beaches. We stop at **Mistral Point** before marching into Maroubra where we will invade the **Maroubra Seals Club** for a tasty beer (and food if desired - its pretty tasty, I have to say!), before grabbing a bus back to the City. The ocean front scenery on this walk is stunning! Hopefully we will spot **Humpback whales** during the day; it is likely that we will. We should arrive at Maroubra by about 4:00pm. Oh, please make sure you **bring photo ID**, to gain entrance to the Maroubra Seals Club. **Distance:** 18 km **Type of Walk:** This wonderful walk is water, water, all the way! Almost the entire walk is along ocean front promenades. **Difficulty:** Medium, because of the distance. If you are unsure about the distance but would like to test yourself this is a walk for you: there are plenty of get-out points. **Walking Pace:** We will maintain a steady pace all day and average 4.5 km per hour. **Meeting Place and Transport:** We catch the Watsons Bay Ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 2. The Ferry leaves Circular Quay at 9:45 am and arrives at Watsons Bay at 10:08am.
